The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a circular stipulating the declaration, management and use of environmental database in the sector. The document will come into force from April 1, 2001.

The new circular, numbered 42/2020/TT-BCT, replaces Circular No. 22/2013/TT-BCT that has significantly contributed to collecting information and data in service of State management and environmental protection of the industry and trade sector.

For businesses, the data have helped them assess the efficiency of their environmental management through years.

However, the legal base of Circular No. 22/2013/TT is no longer suitable with the latest situation, and needs to be adjusted.

Such regulation should not be applied to all production and business facilities whose number is increasing as this would cause difficulties for both management agencies and enterprises.

Therefore, Circular No. 42/2020/TT-BCT includes a list of subjects that must present environmental data, with attached appendices.

It also revamps database management, registration and declaration procedures, while prescribing the responsibility of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade for inspecting the declaration by businesses.

Vietnam has set a target of having 70-90 percent of industrial waste controlled by 2025, Vietnam Plus said.

This is part of an environmental protection plan of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the 2020-2025 period.

Under the plan, 80 percent of ash, cinder and gypsum born in power, chemical and fertilizer factories will be recycled, reused and processed as materials for production and construction so as to meet environmental protection requirements.

By 2025, all businesses operating in the sector will be provided with knowledge on environmental protection laws.

The sector will prioritise the use of environmentally-friendly plastic products./.
