Security Light: Brighten up Roads of Hope in Bao Lam (Cao Bang)

The steep roads, with one side being a mountainside and the other a deep abyss in Na Ca hamlet, Pac Miau town, Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province, used to be a nightmare for the locals when the night falls. However, illuminated by light bubs from Cao Bang's “Security Light” project, the country roads now bring the locals a hope for a safe and stable life.

Light up Country Roads

For about three months now, every evening, the road leading to Na Ca hamlet has been brightly lit by solar lights. Groups of people happily walk and chat together in a peaceful atmosphere. This is part of a project, undertaken by the Cao Bang Provincial Police and Bao Lam District Police, that installs 40 lamp posts valued at 80 million VND. The initiative aims to better living conditions and elevate the quality of life for three Evangelical groups in the district. These include the Mong Evangelical group in Na Ca hamlet, Pac Miau town; the Dao Evangelical group in Na Heng hamlet, Nam Quang commune; and the Khuoi Duong Evangelical group, also in Na Heng hamlet, Nam Quang commune.

Hoang Van Sung, leader of the Mong Evangelical group in Na Ca hamlet, stated that previously, the darkness made people hesitant to leave their homes roads. However, with the installation of lights, there is a newfound sense of security, and students no longer fear their early morning journey to school.

Representatives of Cao Bang Police presented the "Security Light" project to the people of Na Ca hamlet.

Lieutenant Colonel Duong Thanh Hai, the Deputy Chief of Bao Lam District Police, stated that the “Security Light” program was initiated in response to the difficulties encountered by the mountainous region's inhabitants. The police officers and soldiers proposed that the District and Provincial Police departments pool resources to install solar-powered streetlights on the path to the hamlet. The goal of this initiative is to make daily life and work easier, as well as to enhance the community's security and order.

In gratitude for this support, members of Evangelical religious groups have sent thank-you letters to the Cao Bang Provincial Police and Bao Lam District Police. Hoang Van Sung, in a letter dated August 22, expressed: "The 'Security Light' project has brought light to our hamlet, and we, the Evangelicals and residents of Na Ca in Pac Miau town, are thrilled. The solar lights provided by the Cao Bang Provincial Police and Bao Lam District Police have given us, the Evangelical community, better conditions to work and produce, aiding our efforts to overcome poverty. We, the Evangelicals, vow to abide by the law, lead good lives, practice our faith, and contribute to the maintenance of security and order in our area."

Phung Tai Chieu, Head of Group 2 of Ma Heng Hamlet, Nam Quang Commune, and Pastor Hoang Van Nung, Head of Group 1 of Ma Heng Hamlet, also thanked the Cao Bang Provincial Police and Bao Lam District Police for supporting the locals with solar lights. The letter said: "The roads that were previously dark are now lit up for people to travel safely at night. Everyone is happy."

Ma The Sy, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Pac Miu Town, recognized the "Security Light" initiative as a testament to the government's commitment to the populace's welfare. He noted that the people's enthusiasm stems not just from the provision of electric lighting but also from the community's solidarity and unity, which fosters a drive to actively engage with the Party's and the State's policies.

Ensure security through self-management models

Alongside the installation of lighting systems, a "self-management religious groups for security and order" model has been implemented. This approach not only heightens public awareness about security but also guarantees a secure and stable setting for Evangelical believers to practice their faith. Consequently, it fosters a collective effort within the community to safeguard national security.

Upon understanding the situation, the Pac Miu Town Police observed that the Mong Protestant group in Na Ca hamlet exhibits strong unity, mutual affection, and adherence to the Party's guidelines, the State's laws, and local religious management regulations. The community, including dignitaries, officials, and followers of the Mong Protestant group, unanimously supported the establishment of a model to maintain security and order within the group. Consequently, on June 20, 2024, the Pac Miu Town People's Committee formally initiated the "Self-managed religious group for security and order" model in Na Ca hamlet. Hoang Van Sung, the Head of the Steering Committee for the model, expressed his commitment to work closely with relevant authorities to enhance the model's effectiveness in ensuring security and order, thereby enabling residents to feel safe in their occupations and safeguarding a secure living environment for the entire community.
