Six Vietnamese Universities Named In THE World Rankings 2024
Six Vietnamese universities have been listed in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 (THE WUR 2024) which include nearly 1,904 universities across 108 countries and territories.
In the rankings released on September 28, Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University were placed between 601st and 800th, while Vietnam National University (VNU) - Hanoi in the 1,201st- 1,500th group, and VNU-HCM City, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Hue University in the 1,501+ group.
Compared to the previous rankings, three universities have their places dropped, namely the Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University which ranked in the 401st – 500th group, and the VNU-Hanoi in the 1,001st - 1,200th group in 2023. The other three universities maintained their rankings.
This year, THE increased the number of evaluation criteria from 13 to 18 in five groups: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
The rankings analyzed over 134 million citations from 16.5 million scientific publications in the Scopus database and survey responses from 68,402 scholars worldwide. This edition of the ranking featured the largest number of participating universities, with 2,673 institutions.
According to THE WUR 2024, the top five universities in the world are Oxford University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, and Cambridge University.
In Asia, the top performers include Tsinghua University and Peking University (China), National University of Singapore, University of Tokyo (Japan), and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
Duy Tan University
Duy Tan University is located in the heart of sunny Da Nang, on the Pacific Ocean. Ton Duc Thang University
Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) is one of the young universities in Vietnam, with headquarters located in vibrant Ho Chi Minh City, where it focuses on developing the country's economic and educational resources. TDTU has been focusing on holistic human development with the goal of becoming a research university for sustainable development in Vietnam in the twenty-first century. TDTU, which was established in 1997, has been gradually becoming one of the largest and fastest-growing universities in Vietnam. The inauguration of TDTU's Tan Phong campus is an important milestone marking the development of the university, which provides learners with modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment.
Vietnam National University
As the first modern university established and one of the two national universities in Vietnam, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has undergone various stages of development: the University of Indochina was established on 16 May 1906; Vietnam National University (November 1945); the University of Hanoi (June 1956). In December 1993, VNU was reorganized on the basis of amalgamating the University of Hanoi and some other leading universities in Hanoi.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology
Established in 1956, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) is Vietnam’s first multidisciplinary technical university. It is the industrial engineer training center of the country during building and development processes, and the cradle of high-quality human resources for the country’s modernization and industrialization.
