Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh on April 6 received the Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Pilar Méndez Jiménez.

At the meeting, Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh said that the relationship between Spain and Da Nang city is developing. Currently, Da Nang has 8 Spanish projects being carried out.

He also introduced the strengths of Da Nang to Ambassador Pilar Méndez Jiménez. He wished that the Spanish Ambassador would increase activities to introduce and connect potential Spanish businesses and investors to Danang.

They will explore opportunities and invest in cooperation in various fields, especially tourism, information technology and high technology. That contributes to tightening the relationship between the two sides.

Spanish Ambassador to Vietnam Pilar Méndez Jiménez thanked the city leaders for the welcome and expressed his impression of the development of Da Nang city.

Ambassador Pilar Méndez Jiménez said that the potential for cooperation between Danang city and Spain is huge. Many Spanish businesses with strengths in energy development, digital transformation, and human resources can explore opportunities and strengthen investment in Da Nang.

The ambassador also said that the friendship and cooperation between Da Nang and Spain's localities particularly and Spain-Vietnam relations will have a new development.

On April 6, the event connecting Spanish businesses was held. Attending the event were the Spanish Economic and Commercial Counselor, representatives of enterprises Iberdrola, Siemens Gamesa, Indra, Meliá, La Liga.

Spanish businesses and investors introduced their strengths, such as clean energy production, digital transformation, information technology consulting, and high-tech application in transportation.

Spanish investors expressed interest in the project, such as seeking opportunities to enhance the values ​​of sports and football particularly in the region, and exploring cooperation opportunities in the electricity industry.

Nestor Santos Franco, representative of Spain's Economic and Trade Counselor, said that the areas where Spain has strengths in cooperation with Da Nang are, logistics, renewable energy, environment, information and communication technology, health care.

Jose Sanchez-Barroso Gonzalez, Honorary Deputy Consul of Spain in Da Nang city, said that the program to learn about the investment and business environment of Spanish businesses is a good opportunity for Da Nang to introduce its potential, advantages, investment incentive and policies.

The two countries' diplomatic relations over the past 45 years and the Vietnam-Spain strategic partnership have been strengthened in many fields, especially the economy.

Regarding investment, as of August 2021, Spain has 82 projects with a total capital of more than US$134 million, ranking 46th out of 140 countries and investing territories in Vietnam. Currently, there are 8 Spanish investment projects operating in Da Nang with a total investment capital of nearly US$643,000.

In 2021, export turnover from Da Nang to Spain is estimated at US$4.5 million. Import turnover from Spain is estimated at US$4 million. Main export items are garment products, aquatic products, children's toys, handicrafts. The main imported goods are medicines, chemicals and spare parts.

Nearly 70% of Spain's exports are sent to the Asian market, the main export items are agricultural products and cars. Spain considers tourism as its main investment sector.
