Strengthening Tourism Cooperation Between Vietnam and US

At the meeting, the two sides discussed about tourism cooperation between Vietnam and the US in recent years. Before the Covid-19, the number of American visitors to Vietnam was always in the top of 5 largest tourist markets of Vietnamese tourism.
In 2019, the number of American visitors to Vietnam increased by 8.6% and the number of Vietnamese visitors to the US increased by 8.4% compared to 2018. Vietnam and the US have established direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to San Francisco in November 2021.
In tourism, Vietnam has organized a number of activities such as introducing Vietnamese destinations in the US (2019); appointed Jordan Vogt-Roberts, a Hollywood film director, as Ambassador of Vietnam tourism in the US market (term 2017-2020).
Vietnam organizes a program to introduce Vietnam's tourism; coordinate with US media agencies (CNN, CNBC, Google, Youtube) to introduce a safe and friendly Vietnamese destination for American tourists and the global public.
Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism licensed Netflix to film the feature film "A Tourist's Guide to Love" in Vietnam.
Deputy Director General of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Ha Van Sieu also said that Vietnam has officially opened to international tourism from March 15, 2022 and has restored the visa and immigration policy as before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ha Van Sieu also mentioned some US proposals on visa policy and said that he would discuss with agencies to report to the competent authorities.
Doron Bard, head of Visa Coordinator, The US Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City said Vietnam is a potential market that the US is targeting. According to a recent report, the number of students from Vietnam to the US to study accounts for a large number and contributes significantly to the US economy.
He also said that the US Embassy and Consulate General will continue to be the bridge to introduce US partners, businesses to cooperate, invest and do business in the Vietnamese market. They also support Vietnam tourism in activities in the US.
The two sides also discussed ways to jumpstart post-pandemic tourism between the nations.
