Teachers and parents working together in early childhood education
With the generous support of SC Johnson, Save the Children - a leading children's charity and Hai Phong Department of Education and Training have held the closing workshop and the awarding ceremony of Video Contest in Teaching and Learning Activities at Home for Preschool Children and Parents.
Launched in mid-February 2021, the Video contest in Teaching and Learning Activities at Home for Preschool Children and Parents aims to raise the public awareness of the importance of caregiver’s role in educating and supporting their children’s development via playing and learning activities at home at An Duong district, Hai Phong. Additionally, it creates a forum where caregivers can practice and improve their knowledge and skills in carrying out interactive learning activities with children at home.
Throughout the contest, the organizers have received more than 80 videos, with a diverse variety of topics. There are many high-quality video clips with various interactive playing and learning activities between parents, caregivers, and children such as how to recognize size of the object, organizing object alternatingly, etc.
After two rounds of judging, Ms. Vu Hong Nhung has won the First Prize. "My daughter and I made a video with content to learn some fruits. Through the process of video making, we're more close-knit. Furthermore, my daughter is more confident and gets to know about the world around her” Ms. Nhung shared. Other prizes have been awarded to Mr. Le Trung Tien, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, Ms. Vuong Thi Quynh, Ms. Dang Thu Hien, Ms. Do Thi Hue, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi.
"I thought that education for children was the teacher's role. However, through the project, I realized my responsibility in the development of my children. Sometimes, my daughter doesn't cooperate but luckily I always have the teacher at school as well as Save the Children to help me and my family," Mr. Tien shared.
The organisers hope that after this contest, caregivers in Hai Phong and across Vietnam recognize the importance of their roles in children’s care and education. Besides, through the contest, Save the Children hopes to create a forum where caregivers practice to improve knowledge and skills gained by watching and listening the online video and audio library of learning and play activities at home between parents and children made by the project./.
