Thai Binh Border Guard Supports Fishermen at Sea

The sea border area of Thai Binh province includes 14 communes and towns in 2 districts of Tien Hai and Thai Thuy, with 54km of coastline and a sea area of more than 3,000km2. Currently, there are 1,051 vessels and boats engaged in fishing activities with more than 3,000 fishermen.
As a core force in charge of managing and protecting national borders, the Provincial Border Guard organized many activities about the legal system; about the situation of Vietnam's seas and islands; and the responsibility of fishermen operating at sea.

The Provincial Border Guard also instructs fishermen on how to detect foreign ships encroaching on Vietnamese waters; vessels and boats that violate the law such as smuggling, commercial fraud, illegal fishing or illegally sending people abroad.
Recently, the Border Guard of Thai Binh Province coordinated with the agricultural sector to advise the Provincial People's Committee to support the purchase and installation of monitoring service subscriptions for fishing vessel owners.
Up to now, the locality has supported 70% for 174 ships with a total budget of VND1.8 billion (US$76,767), contributing to managing fishing activities in accordance with the law, as well as ensuring information, communication, prevention of floods and storms.

In the last 5 years, the Border Guard of Thai Binh province mobilized businesses, agencies, units, and localities to support fishermen with more than 1,500 gifts worth nearly VND700 million (US$29,853).
The unit also donated 10,000 national flags, and 800 lifebuoys; built 67 houses for poor households; adopted 8 small children living in the border area with the support amount of hundreds of millions of dong.
The support of the Border Guard of Thai Binh province encouraged fishermen to participate in protecting the country's sovereignty over sea and islands in the spirit of Resolution No. 33 on the national border protection strategy.
The resolution identifies each citizen as a living milestone in protecting the homeland's sovereignty, security, borders, sea and islands.
