The 12th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival Kicks Off in Hanoi (and How to Watch)

The 12th European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival opened in Hanoi on June 3 and all the films to be screened are outstanding works embracing the cultural identity of their countries.
The event aims at promoting cultural exchange between Vietnam and other countries and giving audiences a chance to learn about the cultures, people, and communities in Vietnam and other countries, and explore different territories and contemporary issues.
The event is co-organized by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and the National Documentary and Scientific Film Studio (DSF). Vietnam Central Documentary and Science Film Studio

The European-Vietnamese Documentary Film Festival, held annually, aims to strengthen cultural cooperation and exchanges between EU members and Vietnam.

The 10-day event, June 3 - 12, features outstanding and award-winning documentaries from Vietnam and Europe about rural areas, climate change, race discrimination, famous artists, and social development.
At the opening ceremony, Nguyen Quang Tuan, Chairman of Vietnam Central Documentary and Science Film Studio Ltd. said: "The success of the previous festivals has been praised by audiences and media. This year, the Central Documentary and Science Film Studio and European countries co-organized the 12thfestival featuring films about culture, health care, education, and society. But people remain at the center of each film."
From June 3 to June 12, local and foreign audiences will have a chance to enjoy the screening of documentary films from Vietnam and participating countries, many of which have won prestigious awards.
Notably, the film festival will showcase the film “Plains of resurrection” by Vietnamese director Do Huyen Trang about the journey to surmount Agent Orange (AO) consequences during the chemical war waged by the U.S. imperialists in South Vietnam from 1961 to 1971.
Meanwhile, the film “Unlimited war” by Vietnamese Meritorious Artist Nguyen Quang Tuan and Nguyen Anh Ngoc will be presented at the film festival. The film depicts images of dedicated front-line forces against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the film festival will introduce famous works in the world, such as “Petit Samedi” from Belgium, the Spanish film “Omega,” and so on.
Other featuring films are Vietnamese Tea Talk (Vietnam), Molecore (Italy), The Uncertain Kingdom (the UK), De Chaque Instant (France),Helmut Lachemann-My Way (Germany), New Shift (Czech), Save the Village (Austria), Guerilla (Vietnam), A Common Goal (Israel), and Nobel Citizen (Switzerland).

There will be also exchanges and dialogues held between various film-makers and Vietnamese audiences to explore contemporary filmmaking trends in international integration.
