The tiny baby turtles pick their heads out from the holes under the sand, then wiggle their ways towards the waves. 50 days after birth, these turtles are ready to come back to nature and begin their new adventurous life out in the sea.

As an expert in sea turtles and turtle protection, and a member of the Community Team in Protecting Aquatic Resources, Nguyen Ngoc Nam (living in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh) has been helping turtles birth when he guards the bay at night, watching over the eggs and the baby turtles until they are strong enough to be released to their natural habitat.

According to Nam, from June to August of the lunar calendar every year, it is the breeding season of the sea turtles. The sandy beaches of Hai Giang island, Quy Nhon is where the mother turtles choose to lay their eggs.

From the above, Hai Giang island looks like a secluded plateau and a majestic painting of nature that lies in the center of the vast sea, surrounded by three giant mountains.

Not only the rich natural resources but Hai Giang island (located in Nhon Hai Commune) is also famous for the colorful and diverse coral reefs that attract the most aspiring photographers.

The coral reefs and sea turtles are super picky about their hidings and enclosures. They only appear when the water is clear, and the environment is ideal to live in. Especially, sea turtles are the symbols of luck and prosperity according to local belief. The appearance of these two creatures is evidence of the richness and purity of Hai Giang island’s marine life.

According to a survey done by the Institute of Oceanography, the Nhon Hai sea has more than 395 species of creatures, of which hard corals account for more than 155 species. Coming to Hai Giang, you can get a great chance to dive into the sea, and witness the wonderful coral reefs in the crystal clear water just like the Maldives sea. Aside from that, you can also satisfy your passion by participating in other fun activities such as fishing, canoeing, and some exciting underwater sports.

Not only have a clean beach and thousand-year-old gorgeous coral reefs, but Hai Giang also has the most unique geographical wonder.

Hai Giang island is like a “precious gem” that is gifted by nature for the Quy Nhon sea. Tourists who come here for the first time are surprised and amazed by the unique location of this place.

Hai Giang is surrounded by three majestic mountains: The Eastside borders the Chop Vung, San Ho, and Mui Yen mountains. The Westside borders Phuong Mai mountain and The North is close to Mai Huong Bay. In the front, it is the romantic crescent-shaped bay which is peaceful all year round. Hai Giang is also a rare place that has natural freshwater sources running from the mountain streams. The natural flow of water helps everything to be rotated, regulated, and developed well.

Emerging yourself among nature, watching the sunshine and sunset behind the mountains, listening to the streams running in a quiet night are the best things that you will ever experience, and grant you a great source of positive energy.

Traveling to Hai Giang, nothing is better than walking bare feet among nature, listening to the birds singing or streams, and breathing in the fresh air of the forests. When you come back home, you will have the most memorable moments to carry with you, and life is worth living.

One of the advantages of Hai Giang island is that the coastal line turns to the South (known as “Bai Nom” in folklore), while other coasts of Quy Nhon face the East. As a result, the wind and waves are very gentle, totally opposite to other coasts, which often encounters vicious waves, big storms, and seasonally cloudy water.

Peaceful beaches, clear water, and mesmerizing views are not unusual in many parts of Vietnam, but Hai Giang island stands out for its extraordinary cultural features and the stories about the mysterious ancient stone walls sinking deep under the sea.

Every month, local people in Quy Nhon and tourists flock to the beach and wait to see the stone wall slowly appearing above the surface of the water. This is the perfect and rare moment for photographers to have the most unique photoshoots, and for young people to enjoy their Instagram “check-in” time.

“Every month, the water level will go low, revealing the stone wall. At one point, when the tides recede, the 1-meter high wall emerges itself in front of the naked eyes. Tourists come here with curiosity and excitement to see one of the most extraordinary features of the island and try stepping on the wall. There are also children who enjoy playing football around here”, Nguyen Van Ca, a canoe driver at Ha Giang, said.

Dr. Dinh Ba Hoa, Former Director of Binh Dinh Museum said, “Many researchers thought this could be a military wall, but other opinions stated that it was the remains of an ancient port, which was a stop for the merchant ships traveling in Southeast Asian countries to trade goods and find the supplies of freshwater. Thus, it made this place a very important part.'

“This wall is a very mysterious ancient feature, which still remains intact after nearly thousands of years under the water. There are still no answers for this mystery, but its impression on tourists and other people is unbelievable and astounding," he said.
