The New Cuban Ambassador Visits Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho
Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee Phan Van Mai has promised to boost the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba at a reception on May 19 for Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen, reported VNA.

Mai and the ambassador agreed to promote cooperation between the two countries in the fields of diplomacy, youth and cultural exchange.
HCM City will offer 30-50 scholarships for Cuba students to visit and learn in the city each year as well as support the exchange of students between the two sides, the city official said.
Mai suggested that the Cuban Ambassador pay attention to specific collaboration projects with the city in the fields of healthcare and teaching Spanish for the sake of cultural exchange.
HCM City plans to hold several meetings this year to introduce potential cooperation areas between Cuba and the city, he said.
For his part, the Cuban Ambassador said there is great room for cooperation and expressed his hope that HCM City will facilitate stronger collaboration between the two sides in the future.
At present, Cuba is adopting many policies that can open up investment opportunities, he said, noting the hope that more businesses in HCM City take interest in investment in Cuba.
The diplomat also invited HCM City businesses to attend the upcoming international conference held this November on the island.
Guillen affirmed that he will act as a bridge to strengthen comprehensive cooperation between Cuba and HCM City in the fields of education and healthcare.
In the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, Guillen and Ariadne Feo Labrda, Cuban consul general in HCM City, paid a courtesy visit to the leaders of Can Tho City People's Committee to discuss the recent cooperation situation and cooperation orientation in the coming time, according to Can Tho newspaper.
Receiving the delegation were Tran Viet Truong, chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, and leaders of a number of related departments and branches.

Can Tho leaders hope that the Cuban Ambassador and Consul General will continue to support and facilitate coordination with Can Tho to organize many cultural exchange events and activities to help the young generation of Can Tho understand more about the culture, image, country and people of Cuba, helping to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
Besides, Truong also hoped that the ambassador would research and support Can Tho city in the fields of agriculture, health, education; at the same time, research and support to invite businesses to invest in these fields in Can Tho city.

For his part, the ambassador invited Can Tho businesses and investors to come to Cuba to learn about the investment environment as well as introduce Cuban businesses and investors to Can Tho.
In Can Tho City, there is currently one Cuban FDI project, which is a microbiological rat poison production factory of Labiofam Vietnam Co., Ltd., with registered investment capital of over USD 5.6 million.
In 2021, the export turnover of goods to the Cuban market is USD 34,000, the main export items are seafood. In the first four months of 2022, the export turnover of goods to the Cuban market is USD 39,680.
