Veronica Inveen, managing editor of Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia Hong Kong & Macau, shared that she is impressed by Quang Binh due to its reputation as a beautiful Vietnamese locality which allows visitors to get lost in its caves, rivers, and streams.

“The undulating mountains and lush greenery make Quang Binh a haven, promising an escape to untouched nature. Dong Hoi, the capital, is an example of how the locals embrace nature, and it can be experienced through dishes like Snakehead Gruel Fish, Eel Vermicelli, and Banh Beo,” the editor noted.

Quang Binh is located on the northern central coast of Vietnam, adjacent to Quang Tri to the south, Ha Tinh to the north, and Bien Dong to the east. Although the entire area is only more than 8000 square kilometers, it is considered the “Kingdom of Caves” with 404 different caves, stunning beaches, and wild mountains.

Quang Binh went through a long reclamation process before becoming the province that we know today. It had belonged to Van Lang and the Kingdom of Champa for a long time in history, before officially becoming Dai Viet’s territory in 1306.

In the French Colonial Period, the destination was situated in An Nam. During the Vietnam War, it was under communist control, or North Vietnam’s. It was merged into Binh Tri Thien Province in 1976 and separated again in 1990.
