Two Vietnamese universities listed among most sustainable globally
The latest UI GreenMetric World University Ranking (UI GreenMetric) of the top 130 most sustainable universities in the world features a total of two Vietnamese universities, namely Ton Duc Thang University and Tra Vinh University, VOV News reported.
Ton Duc Thang University has climbed a total of 82 places to rank 83rd in the list and was notable for recording high scores in education and research. In addition, Tra Vinh University was placed at 129th and impressed due to its transportation system and general energy efficiency.

The Wageningen University & Research, Netherland has been named as the most sustainable university in the world by the 2020 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
Other sustainable universities in the top ten of the global ranking include the University of Oxford (2th), Nottingham University of Oxford (3th), Nottingham Trent University (4th), the UK; University of California, Davis, the USA (5th); Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld, Germany (6th); the University of Groningen, Netherland (7th); Leiden University, Netherland (8th); the University College Cork, Ireland (9th) and the University of Bologna, Italy (10th).

According to Study in the UK, participating universities provide numeric data on a number of criteria that give a picture of their commitment to the greening of their campus and putting in place environmentally friendly policies to support sustainability. The UI GreenMetric uses six indicators to rank the universities: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education.
Established as a private school in 1997 by the HCM City Federation of Labour, Ton Duc Thang University became a public school in 2008 after being taken over by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Vietnam News reported.

In 2018, the university was named by the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking among the 300 most sustainable universities in the world. It also achieved a four-star rating from the UK’s QS Stars University Ratings
Besides, Ton Duc Thang University was also among the top 400 global universities in the Times Higher Education’s University Impact Rankings last April, reported Vn Express.

Tra Vinh University (TVU), formerly Tra Vinh Community College was formed in 2001 under Vietnam and Canada Community College Project. The project was funded and supported technologies by the Department of International Development, Canada, Canada Association of Community Colleges (ACCC), some institutes in Canada such as Saskatchewan Institute of Science and Applied Technology (SIAT), Marine Institute (MI), Québec Institute of Technology of Agriculture (ITA), and Malaspina University and College, and Vietnam Government. Vietnam and Canada Community College Project proved that Canadian community college model has been able to effectively implement to Vietnam educational system, Devex reported.
