UK and Europe weather forecast latest, October 8: Extreme weather blasts Britain as temperatures plummet
UK's weather forecast
According to Express, the UK is set to see heavy downpours throughout the rest of the week, as temperatures plummet almost overnight. The west and the northwest of the country will see the heaviest and most frequent rains. Temperatures are set to fall well into single figures at night.
At the start of the week, Met Office forecasters issued two amber and one yellow warning. Advice issued by Met Office states that severe weather “can present different challenges both for keeping the travel networks open and for those navigating through the difficult conditions.”
It added: “The Great British weather presents different challenges in different seasons."
“It's not just winter weather which can wreak havoc on the roads - even rain at any time of the year can be dangerous - in fact 9 out of 10 weather-related deaths and serious injuries on the roads take place in the rain."

“From high winds, strong sunlight and fog to snow and ice, all weathers can present different challenges both for keeping the travel networks open and for those navigating through the difficult conditions.”
Heavy downpours have caused havoc over the last few days across the UK, with homes flooding and river banks bursting. However, parts of the UK will see clearer skies today ahead of more rain that has been forecasted for the weekend.
But the conditions will not be much different in the rest of Europe as BBC Weather anticipates a “wet and windy” week ahead for the continent.
In a very short space of time “a lot of rain” is expected to fall over the continent, leading to a plunge in temperatures."

The forecast comes after “devastating flooding” scenes earlier this week in some areas of Italy and France.
BBC meteorologist Susan Powell has warned similar floods could take place in the Balkans on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Ms Powell said: "This will produce a lot of rain in a short space of time."
"Ahead of that, to the east, temperatures will still be above average for Greece, Turkey and Romania on Wednesday."
"We will continue with some fine weather - 26 degrees in Bucharest. As the rain comes down though, so will the temperatures across the Balkans."

She added: "They'll be generally on the cooler side across the northwest of Europe for the next few days. There'll be some warmth and sunshine though for Iberia and the Balearics on Wednesday."
"If anything, conditions will perhaps settle down a little across central Europe on Thursday. The area of low pressure will push further eastwards."

According to Weather Online, a small area of low pressure is expected to be passing through southern England on Thursday. This brings with it cloud and periods of rain.
There is uncertainty over where the most persistent of the rain will be but at the present time it seems that southern Wales, southern England, the Midlands and East Anglia are most likely to see the heaviest rain.
Drier further north with sunny spells, although there will be showers in northern and western Scotland as well as northwest England. Highs at 10 to 12C north of the rain area, perhaps 16C on southern coasts.

Europe's weather forecast
After scenes of "devastating flooding" earlier in the week from parts of Italy and France, concern has transferred to the Balkans for Wednesday, according to BBC meteorologist Susan Powell. A developing weather system will bring some rain into the south of France first thing on Wednesday and across the Alpine region. The BBC presenter warned that it will then extend across the Balkans.
She told viewers: "This will produce a lot of rain in a short space of time. Ahead of that, to the east, temperatures will still be above average for Greece, Turkey and Romania on Wednesday."
"We will continue with some fine weather - 26 degrees in Bucharest. As the rain comes down though, so will the temperatures across the Balkans."
Ms Powell continued: "They'll be generally on the cooler side across the northwest of Europe for the next few days."

"There'll be some warmth and sunshine though for Iberia and the Balearics on Wednesday. If anything, conditions will perhaps settle down a little across central Europe on Thursday. The area of low pressure will push further eastwards."
The weather presenter added: "That will result in a drop in temperatures. For example, Bucharest will reach just 19 degrees with the wet weather on Thursday."
"To the northwest, it looks very unsettled throughout the remainder of the week on into the weekend."
Ms Powell said: "Spells of wet and windy weather are to come. These will push all the way across into Scandinavia. It looks unsettled for the UK and at least the northern half of France."
"There's a possibility of the unsettled weather extending further south. It will be cooler for Sofia and Bucharest with that rain around."
