The ceremony was chaired by Major General Hoang Kim Phung, director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

The delegation also offered incenses and laid wreath at the Monument to War Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son street, Hanoi.

Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Hien, director of the Level 2 Field Hospital No.2 said that the hospital’s staff made all-out efforts to excellently complete the tasks, contributing to promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers as well as the images of the country, people and the People's Army of Vietnam to the international friends, Vietnamplus reported.

Amid the complex Covid-19 development, the hospital had to both ensure the implementation of professional tasks and Covid-19 prevention and control.

Vietnamese “blue beret” soldiers left a strong impression on the people of South Sudan as they provided medical supplies and equipment for the country.

During the tenure, the hospital provided treatment for nearly 2,000 patients who were UN staff and local people, performed 28 surgeries and safely transferred 11 patients by air.

The Level 2 Field Hospital No. 2 was renown for being a reliable healthcare place for UN employees and the locals.

Vietnamese peacekeepers were praised by the UN and international friends, contributing to enhancing the image of a friendly and peace-loving Vietnam.

On this occasion, staff of the Level-2 Field Hospital No.2 and officers joining the UN peacekeeping missions were conferred the Uncle Ho Badge.

Members of the Level-2 Field Hospital No.2 departed for South Sudan from Hanoi in November 2019 to undertake the UN peacekeeping missions for one year, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, their work lasted almost five months longer.

On April 21, the second and last group of staff of Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital No. 3 departed for the UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan from Ho Chi Minh City.

A ceremony was held at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport to see off the staff before they boarded the Royal Australian Air Force’s Boeing C-17 Globemaster III to fly to the war-ravaged South Sudan.

The first batch departed for the African country from Ho Chi Minh City, also on the Boeing C-17 aircraft provided by Australia in March. They completed mandatory quarantine and are in the UN base in Bentiu since April 17 to replace the Level-2 Field Hospital No. 2.

The level-2 field hospital No. 3 was established in March 2020 with 70 officers and soldiers, including 64 official and six reserve members, who were all vaccinated against Covid-19.
