Unique Rhododendron Flowers Bloom In Hoang Lien Son Mountain
Nestled in the northwestern region of Vietnam, Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range spans over 180 kilometers across the provinces of Lao Cai, Lai Chau, and Yen Bai. This mountain range lies between two major rivers in Vietnam, the Red River and the Da River. It is the highest and most expansive mountain range in the country, featuring many Vietnam mountains over 2,800 meters high, notably Mount Fansipan, the country's highest peak at 3,143 meters, often referred to as the "Roof of Indochina".

The terrain of Hoang Lien Son Vietnam is distinguished by its towering and expansive nature, featuring steep slopes and sharp peaks, interspersed with narrow and deep valleys. The geology here encompasses various types of rocks such as metamorphic rocks, crystalline schists, and granite.
According to statistics, the mountain peaks in the Hoang Lien Son range have up to 40 different species of Rhododendron, each with its beauty that adorns the Northwest mountains and forests.

Among the mountain peaks filled with Rhododendron flowers, many people mention Putaleng Peak in Lai Chau province. This place is considered the capital of Hoang Lien Son Rhododendron in the Northwest region. Putaleng Peak has a large number of tall trees with ancient Rhododendron flowers creating a dense population.

Rhododendron (also known as Do Quyen) is a specific flower growing on high mountains in Vietnam such as Hoang Lien Son, Bach Ma, Tam Dao, etc. It has two colors red and white, which bloom year-round, but the most notable time is in April. Fansipan Mount (Lao Cai Province) is also dubbed the “Kingdom of Rhododendron”.
In Lai Chau Province, a 2,619-meter-high mountain peak was recently surveyed by a tourism unit that proposed that the province name it “Do Quyen Peak” to develop local tourism associated with this typical flower.
In the past, to enjoy the rhododendron flowers blooming in Hoang Lien Son forest, the only way was to climb and follow the dangerous forest routes to the higher areas to look at the colorful carpets of rhododendrons amidst the green slopes below. Nowadays, since the launch of a cable car system to Fansipan, visitors can fly up to admire the beauty of rhododendrons.
The rhododendron forest is concentrated from a height of nearly 2,000 m up to Fansipan at 3,143 meters. When the flowers bloom, from the cable car cabins, visitors can see various beautiful golden or bright red blossoms.

Thousands of hundreds of aged rhododendron roots stretching from a height of 2,000 m to Fansipan have been collected and cultivated at Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist complex.
To help visitors enjoy all the beauty of the precious flowers in Fansipan, a festival dedicated to rhododendrons is being held with various special cultural activities of the Northwest region.
To explore Hoang Lien National Park and conquer Fansipan – the rooftop of Indochina, tourists can choose either climbing or using cable cars. For those who love trekking, there are 3 ways to climb to Fansipan: Cat Cat Route, Sin Chai Route, and Tram Ton route. Among them, Tram Ton Route is the most popular one and also the easiest. Following this route, it will take travelers around 2 days and 1 night to reach the top of the mountain. Whereas, Cat Cat Route takes you 3 days and 2 nights. Especially, Sin Chai Route is considered the most difficult and dangerous way, which takes up to 4 days and 3 nights. So, tourists should choose the most suitable route for their trekking.

The H’Mong is the most predominant ethnic minority group in Hoang Lien National Park. However, travelers will meet people from other ethnic tribes such as Dao and Day as well. Starting a conversation with them is easy because most of them are good at English. They have learned different languages from other tourists that they meet daily, or at school. By getting to know them, tourists can listen to their stories and may share a meal and laughter when they invite them to their homes.
