Hoang Lien Son is the highest mountain range in Vietnam with a series of mountains which are located at an altitude of 2,800 m above sea level, Kien Thuc reported.

Fansipan, located at an altitude of 3,143m above sea level, is dubbed as "the roof of Indochina". Fansipan is shrouded in seas of clouds all year round attracting an influx of avid travelers and photography enthusiasts.

Mu Cang Chai terraced rice fields are located at the foot of Hoang Lien Son mountain range, at an altitude of 1,000 m above sea level. In 2007, Mu Cang Chai terraced fields were recognized as a national cultural relic.

Mu Cang Chai terraced fields are said to be the most gorgeous in the watery and ripening rice season. The ideal time in a day to capture the best photos of Mu Cang Chai terraced rice fields is around 7 to 9 am as the early sunlight shines down the terraced fields making them even look more charming.

Hoang Lien Son mountain range stretches about 180km to the northwest-southeast direction between the two provinces of Lao Cai and Lai Chau as well as to the west of Yen Bai province.

O Quy Ho mountain pass, situated at an altitude of 2,073m above sea level, is a premier “must-explore” destination for many backpackers. The pass has a total length of up to 50 km, making it become the longest of its kind in Vietnam.
One side of O Quy Ho pass is abysses and the other is vertical cliffs offering a thrilling but interesting experience.

Hoang Lien Son mountain range is also home to Hoang Lien National Park, which is located at an altitude of 1,000-3,000 m. The park was established in 2002 and belongs to San Sa Ho, Lao Chai, Ta Van, Ban Ho communes (Sa Pa district, Lao Cai) and Phuc Khoa, Trung Dong communes (Tan Uyen district, Lai Chau).

Hoang Lien National Park mainly contains primitive forests with diverse flora and fauna system. There are about 66 species of animals here, 16 species of which are listed in Viet Nam’s Red Book; 347 species of birds, 41 species of amphibians, and 61 species of reptiles. Meanwhile, the flora system has more than 2,000 species.
