In 2023, international tourist arrivals have recovered 70% compared to 2019. In the first 2 months of this year, Vietnam welcomed 3 million visitors, equivalent to before the pandemic. In 2 years, the Prime Minister has chaired 3 national tourism conferences and issued many resolutions and directives to speed up tourism recovery. The breakthrough is to relax the visa policy, increasing the stay period for international visitors to 45 days. This policy is currently being proposed to be more open.

Mario Mendis - Chairman of the Tourism, Restaurant, and Hotel Subcommittee - of the European Business Association said, “I appreciate Vietnam's progress in visa policy. Vietnam can become a longer-term destination for European tourists, meaning tourism will have the opportunity to contribute more to the economy.”

According to experts, it is necessary to continue to promote policies to support businesses in tourism service supply chains. Vo Chi Thanh - Director of the Institute for Brand Strategy and Competitiveness Research points out clearly how to have a policy that promotes breakthroughs, and pioneers, and creates conditions for small and medium-sized businesses to develop.

Directive 08 of the Prime Minister clearly states that it is necessary to restart the National Steering Committee for Tourism to unify the industry's short- and long-term development strategy.

Nguyen Trung Khanh - Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration remarked, “We need to handle and resolve difficult and interdisciplinary problems. Secondly, through the activities of the State Steering Committee on Tourism, we have coordinated directions and cooperative activities, especially regional links between ministries and branches.”

According to the World Tourism Organization, Vietnam is one of the 20 countries with the greatest tourism potential. In 2024, Vietnam aims to welcome 17-18 million visitors, equal to 2019.
