US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a press release: “The Government of the United States expresses its deepest condolences to the Government and people of Vietnam as they mourn those who perished due to significant flooding in the central region of Vietnam as a result of Tropical Storm Linfa.”
The statement also claimed that the U.S. government is willing to assist Vietnam in addressing the damage caused by the floods, as well as expressed their deepest sympathies to all affected by this tragedy, including the many thousands who were displaced.
Previously, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) confirmed to immediately assist Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of floods. In particular, through USAID, the US will provide immediate assistance worth USD 200,000 to support efforts to respond to severe flooding in Vietnam and Cambodia. USAID is working with the Vietnam Red Cross Society to provide emergency assistance to people affected by the flooding.
Besides, it will provide long-term funding for programs that reduce the risk and impact of disasters throughout Southeast Asia. Through these investments, USAID’s partners have remained on the front lines in responding to the impact of severe weather in Vietnam and Cambodia during this year’s active typhoon season.
