This is information that Tran Thi Chang, president of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association said at a working session with the Asia Pacific-Africa Department (Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations) on the afternoon of July 18.

Chang said that the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association was established with the aim of enhancing the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples, Malaysian and Vietnamese authorities, and organizations.

During 10 years of operation, the Association has fostered the transfer of cardiology techniques from Malaysia to Vietnam. Many Vietnamese doctors have been supported to go to Malaysia to learn modern techniques and technologies to serve heart surgery projects in Vietnam.

The Association will strengthen cooperation between the two countries in politics, economy, culture, and society; foster the implementation of projects beneficial to both sides; support the Governments of the two countries to protect and maintain national independence and sovereignty.

The Association will also enhance exchanges and cooperation with other associations with the same interests and goals.

The President of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association said there are currently about 50,000 Vietnamese people living and working in Malaysia. She hopes that large friendship associations with experience will jointly build programs to connect the community.

In October 2022, the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association will organize Vietnam Day in Malaysia to introduce culture, cuisine, education, and economy in the host country. The festival will have the participation of businesses from the two countries to strengthen economic development.

Speaking at the meeting, Le Trung Hieu, deputy director general of the Asia Pacific-Africa Department said that in 2023, Vietnam and Malaysia will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations between two countries.

The Association should contribute to enhancing understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, economy, and especially health.

Tran Thi Chang, president of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that at the end of August 2022, the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association will officially launch in Malaysia, replacing the name of the Vietnamese Liaison Committee in Malaysia.

Previously, the Vietnamese Liaison Committee in Malaysia was established in 2013 to meet the aspirations of overseas Vietnamese living and working in Malaysia. They want to have an official organization to foster mutual affection and contribute to their homeland.

After its establishment, the Liaison Committee has organized many activities to connect the community and support the Vietnamese in Malaysia in difficult times. The Committee organizes events on major Vietnamese holidays, bringing together the Vietnamese community living in Malaysia into a united and strong community.
