Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on May 31 met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Han Duck-soo as part of the former’s official visit to the East Asian country.

At the meeting, the RoK Prime Minister believed that the visit would be an important basis to contribute to further development of the Vietnam-RoK comprehensive strategic partnership.

Prime Minister Han Duck Soo congratulated Vietnam on achieving important achievements in socio-economic development, with an increasing role and position in the region.

He affirmed that the RoK Government always values ​​relations with Vietnam, and considers Vietnam a key partner in implementing foreign policy in the region.

Prime Minister Han Duck Soo agreed with Minister Bui Thanh Son's opinion that the two sides need to promote cooperative relations in the coming time further and maintain regular high-level exchanges and contacts.

The two countries effectively deploy existing cooperation and dialogue mechanisms, promote practical economic cooperation, and strengthen cooperation in culture, education, tourism, labor, and people-to-people exchanges.

Vietnam and the RoK continue to maintain coordination on multilateral forums, strengthening coordination on regional, and international issues of mutual concern.

Minister Bui Thanh Son also congratulated the RoK on its achievements. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue the close coordination with its Korean counterpart and other competent agencies of the two countries to beef up the bilateral relations in the spirit of the agreement reached by the two countries’ high-ranking leaders, focusing on the implementation of the action program to realize the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Regarding regional and international issues, Minister Bui Thanh Son thanked the RoK for cooperating with Vietnam to successfully fulfill the role of coordinator of ASEAN-RoK relations in the 2021-2024 period.

He hopes that the RoK will continue to support, and share experiences to help Vietnam successfully organize the Partnering for Green Growth & the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) in Vietnam in 2025.

Son asked the RoK to continue supporting the stance of Vietnam and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the East Sea issue, affirming that Vietnam always supports and is ready to contribute to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

On the same day, Son held talks with his Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yeol, during which the guest emphasized Vietnam's consistent policy of promoting bilateral cooperation, making it more substantive, comprehensive, and sustainable.

Minister Cho Tae-yeol assessed that Minister Bui Thanh Son's official visit to the RoK has important significance, promoting the substantive development of relations between the RoK and Vietnam in the coming time.

He said the two countries have become each other's most important economic partners, emphasizing that the RoK always considers Vietnam a key partner in implementing regional policies.

The upgrade of the two countries to a comprehensive strategic partnership is an important step based on the achievements gained in the relationship between the two countries, and the high level of trust between the two countries.
