The event is part of a series of activities on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations, following high-level visits between the two countries, including the visit to Vietnam by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese from June 3-4 and the visit of Governor-General of Australia David Hurley in April.

Ambassador Goledzinowski said that the high-level visits demonstrate the strategic trust and close friendship between the two countries, nurtured over the past 50 years. Elevating ties with Vietnam is an important part of Australia's determination to strengthen its links with Southeast Asia and ASEAN, especially when Vietnam and Australia are aiming to upgrade their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Hoang Thanh Tung, head of the Australia-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group and Chair of the National Assembly Committee for Legal Affairs, highlights the beliefs and similarities between the two countries' visions and strategic actions.

He appreciated the growing cooperation with Australia in the exchange of parliamentary staff, technical assistance to Parliamentary leaders, and general support at international forums and events.

Australia’s Aus4Reform program supported the National Assembly Economic Committee since 2015, to enhance the analytical and reporting capacity of the Committee in overseeing and developing Vietnam’s economic development agenda.

The Australia-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, consisting of 11 members of the National Assembly, plays a key role in developing parliamentary relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The cooperation agreement between the legislatures of Australia and Vietnam was signed in 2013 and extended in 2022 during the visit to Australia of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The agreement aims to promote cooperation on high-level exchanges, climate change, digital transformation, digital economy, equitable energy transition, human rights, exchange views on regional issues and support each other at international forums.
