Congress held by the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association of former volunteer soldiers of Army Corps 2.

The Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association of former volunteer soldiers of Army Corps 2 held a meeting in Hanoi on Jan. 8 to review the shared history between the two countries, the support of the Vietnamese military to Cambodia, and proposed new directions for the coming tenure.

Consolidating and nurturing the friendship regarded as one of the top priorities

President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Phuong Nga said that congress was held on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia's diplomatic relations, the Vietnam-Cambodia's Friendship Year 2022, and the 43rd anniversary of the victorious battle to protect Vietnam's southwestern border and together with the Cambodian army and people to fight against the genocidal regime.

President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Phuong Nga said that the friendship and closeness between Vietnam and Cambodia was a valuable asset of the two peoples.

"As the core force of people-to-people diplomacy, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations identifies consolidating and nurturing friendship with the Cambodian people as one of its top priorities. We need to organize more people-to-people diplomacy activities with diverse forms and profound meanings to help residents of the two countries, especially the younger generation, fully and deeply understand the history and importance of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, a valuable joint asset of the two peoples, which was built with the blood and efforts of generations," said President Nguyen Phuong Nga.

During the pandemic, many local units have made great efforts to maintain activities, which are specific, practical, and suitable to the conditions of each unit, locality, and area.

During the last term, the association helped build five houses of gratitude for volunteer soldiers, supported the livelihoods of hundreds of people, helped thousands of sick volunteers to access medical examination and treatment. It has sent VND 20 million (US$ 870) through the embassy for Cambodian people to fight the pandemic

It has proactively participated in people-to-people exchanges, join hands with the central association to further promote Vietnam-Cambodia's friendship. It offered sponsorship for Cambodian students in Vietnam.

Develop the association in both quantity and quality

In the coming tenure, the association considers further promoting its structure and political ideology as a permanent duty in its operation. It aims to build a regular, continuous, widespread, orderly, and in-depth movement, making its activities sustainable and effective.

President of the Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association Nguyen Thi Thanh suggested the new executive committee focus on consolidating and developing the association in both quantity and quality. Positive results achieved in the last term should be promoted.

The Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association of former volunteer soldiers of Army Corps 2 should focus on communication about the solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia, fighting against misrepresentation. It should also take good care of the soldier, helping them in eradicating poverty, support the local government and people to build new countryside and civilized urban. The association should closely adhere to seven key tasks that the central Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association set out at the 5th Congress.
