Vietnam, Cambodia Strengthen People-to-people Exchanges to Cultivate Traditional Friendship

Vietnam and Cambodia agreed to focus on enhancing people-to-people exchanges, especially through tourism and sports activities such as the SEA Games, fostering the traditional friendship between the two countries and contributing to ASEAN solidarity.

Coming to Cambodia to attend the Opening Ceremony of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) held in Phnom Penh, on May 5, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang met with Samdech Tea Banh, deputy prime minister and minister of National Defense of Cambodia.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his impression that during this visit, he was able to witness the rapid change of the capital Phnom Penh.

He expressed his belief that the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games in June 2023 will be a great success, meeting the expectations of the Cambodian people over the past 60 years.

They contribute to enhancing Cambodia's role and position in the region and the world, contributing to the process of building a peaceful, stable, united, and prosperous ASEAN Community.

Tran Luu Quang affirmed that Vietnam's participation in the 32nd SEA Games with a number of members up to more than 1000 people, participating in 30/36 sports shows a high responsibility, and Vietnam's support for Cambodia particularly and ASEAN.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Tea Banh warmly welcomed the Vietnamese sports delegation to attend the SEA Games.

He appreciated the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam attending the Opening Ceremony, as well as the participation of Vietnamese athletes.

He said Cambodia wishes to make a mark in history after more than 60 years of establishment and development of the SEA Games.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Tea Banh recalled Vietnam's success in hosting the 31st SEA Games and appreciated Vietnam's sharing of experiences and support for Cambodia to well organize the 32nd SEA Games.

The good relations, traditional friendship, and comprehensive and long-term sustainable cooperation between the two countries have been increasingly consolidated and developed.

The two sides believe that under the close direction of the senior leaders of the two countries, along with ministries, branches, and localities, Vietnam and Cambodia will coordinate to effectively implement the reached agreements.

The two countries agreed to maintain political contacts, promote economic-trade cooperation and other areas of cooperation.

They focus on enhancing people-to-people exchanges, especially through tourism and sports activities such as the SEA Games, fostering the traditional friendship between the two countries and contributing to ASEAN solidarity.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Tea Banh affirmed that Cambodia creates the best conditions for Vietnamese sports delegations as well as other delegations, including free accommodation for athletes and broadcasting rights.

On this occasion, the two sides agreed to continue strengthening cooperation and mutual support at regional and international forums, contributing to strengthening solidarity and centrality of ASEAN.
