Vietnam-China Cultural Exchange Welcomes New Year 2024 in Hanoi

The event attracted people from all walks of life to various activities to explore Chinese culture during Lunar New Year festival including calligraphy and ink painting held on the Hanoi University's campus.

The Confucius Institute, located at the Hanoi University (HANU), on January 24 organized a Vietnam-China cultural exchange program themed "Welcome Spring 2024".

The event hosted unique experience activities such as Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine; painting and ink art; Chinese paper cutting; Vietnamese ao dai and Hanfu clothes; and writing calligraphy.

Speaking at the exchange program, Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Nga, head of the HANU's Department of Chinese language, said that through cultural bridges, young people of Vietnam and China can increase their understanding of the development situation and the cultures of the two countries, and at the same time, contribute to promoting mutual understanding between the people of the two countries in the work of building a community of shared future between Vietnam and China.

According to Nga, traditional Lunar New Year is an important part of the traditional culture of the two countries, not only having many common features but also unique features.

Zheng Dawei, education counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, said that in recent years, along with the strong development of China-Vietnam relations, humanitarian exchanges between the two countries have increasingly enhanced, the results of cooperation in fields such as culture, education, and tourism are extremely great.

In the 2022 - 2023 school year, more than 23,000 Vietnamese students will come to China to study, and educational cooperation between the two countries will be tightened and developed.

In educational institutions in Vietnam, the work of teaching Chinese has achieved many achievements. Many contemporary Chinese cinema works have received support from Vietnamese audiences; Vietnamese music songs appear widely on Chinese social networking platforms. The Vietnamese singer participated in a reality TV show and attracted a large audience of fans in China. These achievements in exchanges have strengthened understanding between the two peoples, creating a solid foundation for even higher quality cooperation in all fields, the diplomat stressed.

According to Zheng, this exchange will give attendees the opportunity to experience the similarities and differences in the traditional Tet culture of China and Vietnam, increasing our cultural knowledge about Lunar New Year holiday customs, while strengthening the bond between the two peoples.

He hopes that the efforts of the two peoples will together paint a beautiful picture of cultural and civilizational exchange and learning between China and Vietnam, wishing that the two countries' exchanges, especially the mutual understanding and friendship of the youth generation, will increasingly develop.

​The Confucius Institute, located at the HANU, was founded in 2014 under a partnership between HANU and Guangxi Normal University (China).

The institute offers Chinese language courses and promotes Chinese culture to strengthen the two countries’ friendship.
