5,376 positive cases, over 28,850 recoveries confirmed
Vietnam recorded 5,376 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours across 39 provinces and cities and more than 28,850 discharges, the Health Ministry reported on October 3.
Among the new cases, there were nine imported and 5,367 local infections. Ho Chi Minh City and its neighbor Binh Duong still topped the list with 2,461, and 1,283, respectively. The capital city of Hanoi recorded 4 cases that were found in lockdown areas or linked to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital.
Following the detection of the new outbreak, the municipal Centre for Disease Control has asked relevant agencies to conduct contact tracing and strictly carry out Covid-19 prevention and control measures in a bid to slow the spread of the pandemic.

PM issues directive on the restoration of industrial production
Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh on October 3 signed for issuance of a Prime Minister directive on restoring production at industrial production areas amid the pandemic. The directive stated Covid-19 outbreaks have seriously affected the production and business of enterprises as well as the health and lives of people.
The provincial/municipal People’s Committees were requested to work with the Ministry of Health to speed up the allocation of vaccines for inoculating workers of enterprises and consider the resumption of some essential services to serve employees. The Ministry of Health was ordered to promptly issue specific regulations on distancing and testing in production and business at enterprises. The Ministry of Transport was required to guide localities in ensuring the circulation of commodities to well serve the recovery of production and business. The Ministry of Planning and Investment was assigned to provide instructions and guidance to remove difficulties in terms of investment procedures and infrastructure development at industrial and economic zones.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was asked to work with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies to remove difficulties and hindrances, create favorable conditions for foreign experts and workers to enter the country, and undergo quarantine in line with regulations of the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Finance and theState Bank of Vietnam were requested to review and guide the implementation of policies and regulations on tax exemption and reduction.

HCM City receives over 1 trillion VND in a donation for Covid-19 fight
Ho Chi Minh City has received over VND 1.03 trillion (USD 45.4 million) donated by localities, organizations, businesses, and individuals at home and abroad to help the city in Covid-19 prevention and control. On October 2 alone, the city received more than VND 77 billion in cash and transfer to pandemic control and over VND 1.4 billion to purchase vaccines as well as medical supplies and equipment from sponsors, including 2 million rapid test kits worth VND 88 billion donated by VPBank.
Since the beginning of this year, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of HCM City and the committee for raising, receiving, and distributing funds for Covid-19 prevention and control have received over VND 312 billion in cash to support the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19.
From July 1 to October 2, 194 individuals, businesses, and organizations inside and outside the country have donated medical supplies and medicines worth over VND 2.61 trillion. The committee and municipal authorities have so far distributed over 853 billion VND in cash and more than VND 354 billion worth of goods to Covid-19 prevention and control activities in the city.
Since the pandemic resurged in the country in late April, the number of infections in the capital has crossed the 4,000 mark, including 1,608 ones found in the community. With the latest cases, Vietnam is ranked 43rd out of 223 countries and regions in terms of total infections, although it is 155th in terms of infections per one million people. Over 44.6 million people have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine shot, of which 10.4 million people have been fully vaccinated so far. |
