Single-day tally drops by 1,467 to reach 5,490
The Health Ministry confirmed the detection of 5,490 new Covid-19 cases on October 2, thereby pushing the total during the latest waves to 798,626 infections. The epicenter of Ho Chi Minh City continued to lead the daily tally with 2,723 cases, followed byBinh Duong with 1,517 cases.
The outbreak related to the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital in Hanoi had recorded 28 cases since the detection of the first one on September 30 to 11 am on October 2, according to the Hanoi Department of Health. Of them, 22 infections were reported in the capital city, three in Nam Dinh and one each in Hung Yen, Ha Tinh, and Hai Duong. Upon the detection of the new outbreak at the hospital, the municipal Centre for Disease Control has asked relevant agencies to conduct contact tracing in a bid to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
With 164 fatalities announced on October 2, the pandemic’s death toll rose to 19,601. In addition, the total number of recoveries also increased to 664,938 following 28,857 discharges being confirmed on the same day.

Domestic flights to reopen from October 1
Domestic flights officially resumed on October 1 under a four-phase plan outlined by the Ministry of Transport which is set to be applied in localities that have implemented relaxed Covid-19 containment measures.
The first phase will be carried out over a 10-day period, with airlines resuming air routes with a flight frequency not exceeding half that of the first 10 days of April, the time before the fourth Covid-19 wave broke out in the nation. In addition, seats on the planes must also be distanced and spaced out.
Moving into the second phase, which will last for no more than 10 days, the frequency will be increased to not exceed 70%, with no distancing required between seats. The third phase will see the flight frequency return to the level seen during the first 10 days of April, but not exceeding it, with no seat distancing required. Finally, the last phase will involve airlines resuming activities as normal.

Vietnam receives another 1.5 mln Covid vaccine doses from US
A batch of 1,499,940 million Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine doses has been delivered to Vietnam by the U.S. through the global vaccine access mechanism Covax. The new batch followed three previous vaccine donations from the U.S. to Vietnam through Covax, totaling 7.5 million doses so far, according to a Saturday press release by the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi. The doses came directly from the Pfizer manufacturing plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
In addition to the vaccine donation, the U.S. has committed more than $26.7 million in Covid-19 related assistance to Vietnam since the start of the pandemic, the embassy said. The U.S. is the largest single-country contributor to Covax, contributing $4 billion to support the mechanisms' procurement and delivery of Covid-19 vaccines to 92 low- and middle-income economies.
On average, the country has recorded 8,065 cases daily over the past week. Since the start of the pandemic, the nation has recorded 803,202 cases. As of the end of October 1, over 43.6 million people have now been vaccinated with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccines, with more than 10.1 million people already receiving two full shots. Ahead in the October batch, the nation will be given approximately 110 million vaccine doses in total. |
