Vietnam-Cuba Fifth Theoretical Symposium Held in Hanoi

The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) on May 3 co-organized the fifth Theoretical Symposium under the theme of "Some theoretical and practical issues on building socialism in Vietnam and Cuba", VNA reported
The four previous editions of the symposium were held in 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
At the fourth edition held in November 2018 in Cuba, the two sides discussed practical issues and experiences in socio-economic development, and political and ideological work drawn from Vietnam's Doi Moi (Renewal) and Cuba's socio-economic model update. This symposium focused on clarifying decisive factors in the socio-economic development and political and ideological work of each Party; and analyzing the situation and solutions of each party, thus clarifying some urgent theoretical issues of mutual concern.
The event in Hanoi was co-chaired by Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) and Chairman of the Central Theory Council, and Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee.

In his opening remarks, Thang emphasized that sharing experiences, and theoretical and practical issues in the process of building socialism in Vietnam and Cuba is an important content of cooperation between the two Parties with an aim to enhance mutual understanding, tighten and promote the special relationship between the two Parties and peoples.
The organization of such kind of symposium is vivid evidence of the exemplary, faithful, and pure solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, he stressed.
Within the framework of the event, delegates, theorists and ideologists of the two Parties presented speeches and exchanged opinions on building and developing Party organizations in economic sectors; developing a contingent of cadres, especially strategic ones; the work of political and ideological education among youths; strengthening communication governance, and ensuring security and safety in cyberspace; and building Vietnam's socialist-oriented market economy and updating Cuba's socio-economic model.
Roberto Morales Ojeda affirmed that the two Parties highly agree on the urgent need to continue strengthening political and ideological consensus and selectively absorb international experience in combination with the fundamental ideology of each country.

On May 3 afternoon, Thang received Rosario Penton Diaz, a member of the PCC Central Committee, and director of the Nico Lopez Senior Party School. They shared experience in personnel planning and strategic cadre training of each Party.
On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Nico Lopez Senior Party School renewed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the 2023 – 2028 period.
The same day, State President Vo Van Thuong hosted a reception in Hanoi for Roberto Morales Ojeda.

President Thuong suggested the two sides continue expanding and improving the efficiency of bilateral cooperation in the fields of research, review, and exchange of theory and practice on innovation and socio-economic updating and socialism building in each country; high-level delegation exchanges; and coordination and support at international forums and on global issues.
The State leader once again affirmed Vietnam's principled and consistent stance of support for the struggle for the immediate and unconditional lifting of blockade and embargo measures against Cuba.
The Vietnamese Party, State and people always accompany, share, and are ready to expand and deepen the special solidarity between the two Parties, States, and peoples, he added.
Before that, the Cuban delegation visited Ho Chi Minh City.
The city is also ready to send experienced experts and officials to Cuba to share and practice a pilot model of high-tech agricultural development to boost Cuba's agricultural sector, said Politburo member, Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen during May 1 reception.
Roberto Morales Ojeda stressed Cuba wishes to further promote collaboration with HCM City, especially in potential fields like agriculture, education, health, sports, and tourism, adding his country also hopes to attract more Vietnamese investors, including those from the southern economic hub of Vietnam.
During their stay, the Cuban delegation visited Cu Chi Tunnels - a popular historic site of the city and worked with some local units and businesses.
