Vietnam, Cuba to Step up Cooperation in Justice

Deputy Chief Justice Nguyen Van Du has led a delegation of the Vietnamese Supreme People’s Court to pay an official visit to Cuba from May 18-21 and attend the 10th International Meeting on Justice and Law.

Meeting with Chief Justice of Supreme People's Court of Cuba, Rubén Remigio Ferro, Du briefed the host on reforms in the Vietnamese court system over the past time such as enhancing the publicity of sentences, improving judicial service quality for the public and modernising infrastructure.

In its judicial reform strategy, the Vietnamese State aims to enhance the capacity of judges, build e-courts and intensify international experience exchange, he stressed.

For his part, Rubén Remigio Ferro informed Du about the orientation for the modernisation of the Cuban court system, saying the two countries share similarities in the process of consolidating their judicial systems.

The host was interested in Vietnam’s experience in judicial reconciliation and suggested organising knowledge exchanges or thematic workshops on the issue.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese delegation handed over some laptops as a gift from the Vietnam Supreme People’s Court to the Cuban counterpart.

The Supreme People's Court of Cuba, with collaboration of the National Union of Cuban Jurists and the Law Faculty of the University of Havana, convened the 10th International Meeting on Justice and Law from May 18-28.

The meeting has established itself as a scientific-legal space of great prestige at the national and international level, with the participation of renowned personalities, including presidents and magistrates of the Supreme Courts, specialists, academics and professors from different latitudes.

Continuing to promote debate, reflection and the exchange of experiences between the different operators of the judicial systems of the participating countries is its fundamental aim, with the clear purpose of continuing to achieve a greater justice./.
