On August 14, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam and a delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic paid a working visit to Cheb city in the Karlovy Vary region.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic met with Mayor of Cheb Jan Vrba and visited many businesses run by Vietnamese people in the city.

At the working session, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam affirmed that the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic have witnessed positive developments in recent times, highlighted by the successful implementation of two flagship projects, namely the Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant and the SKODA Automobile Manufacturing Plant in Quang Ninh province.

In addition, he emphasized that the two economies have a high degree of complementarity. In particular, there are substantial potential for Vietnam-Czech cooperation in many areas, including labor, education and training, digital transformation, green transition, tourism, and high-tech agriculture.

The diplomat spoke highly of the results of the Deputy Mayor of Cheb's recent visit to Bac Ninh province in August, expressing confidence that the two localities will make considerable progress toward developing high-quality industrial zones, preserving heritage sites, and promoting tourism.

He suggested that the Cheb officials consider increasing collaboration in labor and vocational training, particularly for nurses and healthcare workers, to overcome the Czech Republic's recent skilled labor shortage.

Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam also expressed gratitude to the leaders of Cheb City for their active support and favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to integrate and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Cheb city and their homeland Vietnam.

He suggested that Cheb leaders consider including the Vietnamese language in the curriculum at primary and university levels within the city to enhance cultural exchange and mutual understanding, contributing to deepening bilateral relations between the two countries ahead of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

For his part, Mayor Jan Vrba valued the meaningful contributions of the Vietnamese community, with about 3,000 people in Cheb to the host society over the years, which have been appreciated by the Czech people.

According to the Mayor, the successful integration of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic is a clear testament to the traditional friendship between the two countries.

He also committed that the city would continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in their daily life and business, thereby adding value to the city.

In the framework of the trip, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam visited some Vietnamese-owned companies in the Czech city.
