Vietnam Innovation Day 2024 in Belgium includes an opening session; three discussion sessions regarding topics such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, the environment and renewable energy, experience in technology transfer to Vietnam and investment capital; and a concluding session.
Delivering at the event's opening session, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao stressed the significance of science, technology, and innovation in fostering motivation for progress, particularly for a developing country like Vietnam.
In May 2022, the Vietnamese Prime Minister issued the Strategy for Science, Technology, and Innovation Development until 2030, implementing the Party's guiding ideology on innovation and aiming at the country's rapid and sustainable development. The priority is given to focusing on several strategic potential areas such as AI, semiconductor technology, green transformation, and sustainability to bring Vietnam deeper participation in the global value chain.
Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao stated that international cooperation is essential, and the EU has long been an important partner of Vietnam in many areas, particularly in science and technology, where the EU is a leader in innovative technologies.

Therefore, the EU is Vietnam's most important potential partner in this area. With the important foundation of EVFTA, a useful tool that has helped the two sides ensure that the supply chain is not disrupted, particularly during the difficult period due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the two sides can continue to take advantage of and use this tool to promote cooperation in the new period, including developing cooperation in science and technology, in accordance with the EU's strengths and Vietnam's needs.
The Ambassador proudly stated that Vietnam has a large number of qualified overseas Vietnamese across many European countries. He hopes that this will serve as both the foundation for the establishment of the VINEU and the driving factor behind the VINEU's efforts to improve Vietnam-EU relations.
Vietnamese representative agencies and ambassadors in Europe, including the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium and the Vietnamese Mission to the EU, and each European country, are always ready to facilitate and support meaningful activities to promote innovation cooperation between Vietnam and the EU in particular, as well as to contribute to the future development of Vietnam-EU relations in general, and to strengthen the connection between Vietnamese overseas people with the homeland.
The event was held in the spirit of open and truthful exchange to seek possibilities for cooperation and to strengthen the Vietnamese innovation network in Europe.
In 2018, one hundred scientists and the Vietnamese Prime Minister established the Vietnam Innovation Network in Europe (VINEU). The network strives to consolidate the resources, knowledge, and global insights of Vietnamese experts operating in diverse global regions to aid Vietnam in its transition to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and promote environmentally sustainable economic expansion. |
