Vietnam gifts masks, ventilators to support Cambodia against Covid-19

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung in a ceremony on May 20 has symbolically hand over the supplies to Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth.
This additional aid comes after the existing support to the people of Cambodia, is hoped to meet the emerging challenges of the pandemic.
The number of medical supplies and equipment including 800 ventilators, two million medical masks and 300,000 N95 masks is within the framework of Vietnam's third official support to help Cambodia cope with the Covid-19.
Previously, in April 2020 and April 2021, the Vietnamese Party, State, Government and people have donated many medical supplies and equipment to Cambodia, including Covid-19 testing kits, personal protective supplies, medical masks, antibacterial masks and cash worth 500,000 U.S. dollars.
During his speech, Dung expressed the deep sympathy of Vietnam toward the Government and people of Cambodia over the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
In the spirit of close neighborly relations and the tradition of sharing and supporting each other in difficult times, following the financial support in April 2021, the above gifts from the Government and people of Vietnam will be urgently transported to the capital Phnom Penh in the coming days, with the desire to make a practical and effective contribution to the Covid-19 response efforts of the Government and people of Cambodia.
Dung highly appreciated Cambodia's effective measures to prevent and control the Covid-19, as shown by the number of new infections tended to decrease in recent days, expressing confidence under the drastic management and the leadership of the Government led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, Cambodia will soon successfully control the pandemic, quickly recover, stabilize socio-economic and continue to develop sustainably.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung once again thanked the Government of Cambodia for the attention and assistance to the Vietnamese community living, studying and doing business in Cambodia as well as the Vietnam's representative during this difficult times.

For his part, Cambodian Ambassador Chay Navuth expressed his deep gratitude for the invaluable support and assistance both materially and spiritually, showing the special concern of the Party and State leaders as well as Vietnam's central and local agencies dedicated to Cambodia during difficult times, as the proverb says "a friend in need is a friend indeed".
The ambassador affirmed that Vietnam's financial and medical support over the past time is not only a beautiful humanitarian gesture, but also a fruit of the friendship, solidarity and good neighborliness between the two countries. It is bring practical effects to Cambodia's Covid-19 prevention and control, making an important contribution to helping the Government and people of Cambodia to soon repel the pandemic, he added.
Though Vietnam has done exceptionally well in quickly containing Covid-19, the pandemic has taken unprecedented toll on its economy.
However, since the beginning of the pandemic, the Vietnamese Party, State, Government and people have shown solidarity with international friends in combating Covid-19, by gifting medical supplies as well as cash donations.
The aid illustrates Vietnam’s continued willingness to assist other countries on a bilateral and multilateral basis to the best of its abilities even as it continues to remain cautious about managing its own coronavirus challenge at home./.
The Cambodian Ministry of Health on May 19 announced 393 new Covid-19 infections, including 392 domestic cases, making the national tally to surpass 23,000.
The ministry also said that an additional 612 people were given the all-clear from coronavirus and three more were defeated by Covid-19.
So far, the country has recorded 23,282 cases and 159 fatalities.
