The event, themed “Connecting Through Culture: Vietnam-India,” was held at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in Hanoi. |
At the event, themed “Connecting Through Culture: Vietnam-India,” Sahasrabuddhe said the cultural exchange between the countries has developed strongly since the 2nd century BC.
Maritime trade routes have facilitated the exchange of goods, spices and textiles, and served as channels for international knowledge exchange, he said, adding that through these routes, language, arts, Buddhism, and philosophy from India reached Vietnam, creating a profound similarity in the spiritual foundation of people in both nations.
The solidarity between Vietnam and India has been cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Indian national hero Mahatma Gandhi, as well as generations of leaders and people of the two countries, he continued.

The two countries established a comprehensive partnership with many bilateral cooperation agreements, and close cultural links, Sahasrabuddhe said.
Participants at the event raised questions regarding how to turn the cultural connectivity into the premise for successes in cooperation in economy, politics, trade, national defence and security, and other fields, and to promote Vietnamese culture in India.
They shared the view that the two sides should continue cultural exchanges and research in the time ahead.
Established in April 1950, the ICCR has been tasked with establishing and consolidating cultural ties between India and countries worldwide through cultural exchange programmes.
Over the past years, through the ICCR, the Indian Government has organised many cultural and art exchange programmes to bring the two countries closer. Such activities as celebrations of International Day of Yoga and Buddha’s birthday, along with Yoga, dance and Hidi language courses, scholarships, and heritage conservation projects reflect the importance India attaches to the cultural links with Vietnam, according to Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Ayra.
