In the last 5 years, travel between the two countries has escalated significantly. The two countries have applied e-visa for their citizens. Indigo and Vietjet airlines of the two countries have opened direct flights connecting 6 major cities and tourist destinations of the two countries (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata).
In the period 2016-2019, Indian visitors to Vietnam increased by an average of 25% per year and Vietnamese visitors to India increased by an average of 17% per year. In 2019, the exchange of visitors between the two countries has reached nearly 200,000. In which, Vietnamese tourists to India reached nearly 30,000 arrivals and Indian visitors to Vietnam reached about 170 thousand arrivals.
The two sides have expected that by 2022, the two-way passenger exchange between Vietnam and India will reach 500,000 times when there is a direct flight with about 5 hours of flight time.
Tourism cooperation between Vietnam and India has grown strongly over the years along with the development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership. In the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, India has always been a great support for Vietnam.
Implementing the Government-level Agreement on tourism cooperation signed in 2001, many cooperation and tourism promotion activities within the bilateral and multilateral framework have been in effect.
The program attracted the participation of agencies, associations, tourism businesses, hotels and airlines of the two countries, and received support and support from the Indian Embassy in Vietnam and vice versa.

Vice President - General Secretary of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Phan Anh Son received Ambassador of the Republic of India to Vietnam Pranay Verma in Hanoi on Dec. 7 2021.
They met to discuss a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India (January 7, 1972 - January 7, 2022).
Phan Anh Son said VUFO highly appreciated the cooperation with India, not only on the occasion of the coming 50th anniversary but also in the past and future.
The Indian Ambassador thanked VUFO for cooperation and support in past friendship activities, and highly appreciated VUFO's initiative for the upcoming celebration.
VUFO and the Indian embassy affirmed their willingness to cooperate in holding activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary. The two sides agreed on hosting events to introduce and promote culture, enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples, step up communication activities, connect experts in many fields, and contribute to the development the cooperative and friendly bilateral relations.

Vietnam and India's relation originates from cultural and religious exchanges from over 2000 years ago. The two countries' friendship and was built and nurtured by Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the 20th century.
