Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia Youth Share Initiatives to Combat Covid-19
The opening ceremony took place on Oct. 22, attended by President of the Vietnam Youth Federation Nguyen Ngoc Luong, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia Hun Many, Vice Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union Thoong Chan Phu Mu Phan, representatives of the Embassies of Laos and Cambodia in Vietnam and 65 youths from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
Throughout the event, the participants took part in three seminars: Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian youths joining efforts to cement the friendship amongst the three countries; Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian youth joining frontline staff to combat Covid; and improving the capacity for Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian youths.

In addition, the participants joined a virtual tour to visit three start-up projects, namely “producing banana fiber using ABACA technology,” “producing essential oil from shiso leaves,” and “establishing the Thuong Lam Youth Cooperative to boost homestay development combining with freshwater fish farming.”
In his opening speech, President of the Vietnam Youth Federation Nguyen Ngoc Luong expressed his belief that the event would connect youth in the three countries, contributing to strengthening traditional friendship among Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
In the last two years, the youth unions and youth federations in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have been striving to address challenges and become innovative in exchanging information and providing support to each other. High-level telephone calls amongst youth leaders and social welfare and Covid fighting projects are constantly held throughout the pandemic.

Ngoc Luong expressed his hope that the youth in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia would make use of the event as a platform to exchange, share and discuss practical experiences and innovative methods to improve and contribute to the comprehensive development of Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian youths.
Echoing the opinion of Ngoc Luong, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia Hun Many and Vice Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union Thoong Chan Phu Mu Phan believed the event was a practical project to strengthen the friendship amongst the youth in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Thoong Chan Phu Mu Phan noted that the relationship between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia was a rare property that should be protected and enhanced.
He added that the youth in the three countries should support each other and strengthen cooperation and sharing of experiences in socio-economic development, defense and security, investment cooperation and tourism development.
Hun Many expressed his hope that the youths in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia would continue to aid each other in the fight against Covid-19 and that the pandemic would soon be controlled so in-person exchange programs for the youths in the three countries could be resumed.
The event organizers also showed video clips on cooperation activities among the youths in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
The closing ceremony will be held on Oct. 24, 2021.
