In his remarks, Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee Uong Chu Luu expressed gratitude to the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity and Chairman Sommad Pholsena for their heartfelt condolences to the Vietnam Peace Committee, following the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. This reflects the deep and enduring bond between the two committees, as well as between the two Parties, States, and the peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

The Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee congratulated the leadership of the Lao Party, State, and people for maintaining political stability, social order, and economic growth despite numerous challenges. Amid unpredictable regional and global developments, Laos has effectively fulfilled its role as Chair of ASEAN 2024, thereby enhancing its standing on the international stage.

He affirmed that the Vietnam Peace Committee highly values its cooperative activities with the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity. The two committees have made significant contributions to Vietnam-Laos relations by establishing a mechanism for annual delegation exchanges, regularly sharing information, and closely coordinating activities that promote friendly exchanges and cooperation between the peoples of both countries.

In 2022, the Vietnam Peace Committee's working visit to Vientiane, Laos marked a successful chapter in the exchange of delegations between the two committees. The seminar on people-to-people diplomacy conducted during the visit was a major milestone in their cooperation, contributing to a deeper understanding of people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries.

Luu proposed that in the coming time, the two committees continue to deepen their understanding of the Vietnam-Laos relationship, viewing it as a valuable asset that must be nurtured. He emphasized the importance of consistently implementing the policies and guidelines set forth by the two Parties and States further to strengthen the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Both sides agreed to actively promote and innovate their cooperative activities in a more diverse, practical, and effective manner by organizing direct and online seminars, workshops, and exchange programs for officials and students to discuss issues of peace, solidarity, and cooperation.

They also committed to strengthening coordination and mutual support in people-to-people diplomacy at multilateral forums. A regular information exchange mechanism on issues related to both countries, the region, and the world will be maintained to ensure timely support for each other's work.

Additionally, the committees will enhance training support to improve the professional skills of personnel involved in people-to-people diplomacy. They will also continue coordinating the organization of traditional education programs for the public, especially the younger generation, to promote the protection of peace. Experts and speakers from Vietnam and Laos will be invited to promote education on peace and a culture of peace. Moreover, the two committees will cooperate more closely at multilateral forums.

Sharing Luu's proposals, Chairman of the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity Sommad Pholsena affirmed that the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity would closely coordinate with the Vietnam Peace Committee to organize activities that promote peace, solidarity, and cooperation.

These efforts will continue to strengthen the traditional friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples. On this occasion, he extended a cordial invitation to Uong Chu Luu to visit Laos in 2025, marking a new step in strengthening bilateral relations.

During the talks, Chairman Uong Chu Luu highlighted recent proactive efforts by the Vietnam Peace Committee, including participation in the World Peace Council (WPC), the World Conference against A and H Bombs, and events within the ASEAN People's Forum.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the Vietnam Peace Committee collaborated with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations to welcome Pallab Sengupta, Chairman of the World Peace Council, during his visit to Vietnam.

Each year, the Vietnam Peace Committee sends representatives to participate in the World Conference against A and H Bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. This year, the committee continued its efforts at the conference, urging organizations and people’s movements to work together to build a peaceful, stable environment free of nuclear weapons.

The Vietnam Peace Committee has also been active in implementing peace education programs, working closely with localities and universities to organize seminars and discussions to raise awareness about a culture of peace, especially among the youth. Activities such as celebrating the International Day of Peace, hosting exhibitions, organizing painting contests, peace runs, and the Praying for National Peace and World Peace ceremony in cooperation with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha have been successfully conducted. Additionally, the committee regularly visits and supports the families of martyrs and war victims, continuing to contribute to the maintenance of peace.

On the same morning, the delegation of the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity, led by Chairman Sommad Pholsena, paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.
