Do Van Chien Becomes New President of VFF Central Committee
Secretary of the Party Central Committee Do Van Chien on Monday was assigned as new President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee. His predecessor, Politburo member Tran Thanh Man, was recently elected Vice Chairman of the 14th National Assembly (NA).
In his inauguration address, called on people from all social strata nationwide and overseas Vietnamese to continue upholding the tradition of great solidarity, actively support patriotic emulation movements launched by the VFF, join the entire Party, people, and army in developing a strong and prosperous Viet Nam.
Chien, born on November 10, 1962 in Duong Son district, Tuyen Quang Province, is from the San Diu ethnic minority group.
He has served as Secretary of the 13th-tenure Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Delegation of the VFF in the 2019-2024 tenure since March 31 this year, as reported by VGP.
HCM City leaders pay New Year visit to Lao Consulate General
A delegation from Ho Chi Minh City led by Standing Vice Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Tran Luu Quang paid a visit to the Lao Consulate General in the city on the occasion of Bunpimay – Laos’ traditional New Year Festival.
While extending his New Year wishes to the staff at the Consulate General and all Lao people, Quang expressed his delight at the development of the special friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between HCM City and Laos in general and Lao localities in particular, thus contributing to deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Lao Consul General Phimpha Keomixay thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their support for Laos’ national building and development cause, most recently in the construction of the Lao National Assembly House.

The Lao Government and people hope that Vietnam, including HCM City, will maintain cooperative activities to consolidate and develop traditional relations so as to further develop both countries.
The Bunpimay festival is observed from April 14-16 annually to pray for good weather, health, abundant harvests, and prosperity, NDO reported.
State leader Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomes ASEAN diplomats
State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 13 for ambassadors and chargés d'affaires of ASEAN member states, who came to congratulate him on his election as new President of Vietnam.
On behalf of the ASEAN diplomats, Brunei Ambassador to Vietnam Pengiran Haji Sahari bin Pengiran Haji Salleh hailed the remarkable achievements the nation has recorded in pandemic containment and socio-economic development in the recent past.
He said he believes that Vietnam will continue reaping new achievements in the time ahead as a means of raising its regional and international stature.
Reviewing Vietnam’s achievements as Chair of ASEAN last year, the diplomat praised its major contributions to building the ASEAN Community, coping with the pandemic, and expanding external relations.
He expressed his confidence that President Phuc will continue making his best efforts to deepen the solidarity and cooperation within ASEAN and Vietnam’s ties with other bloc members as a contribution to regional and global peace and stability.
Phuc, in turn, emphasized that the participation in ASEAN is always a priority in Vietnam's diplomacy and that the friendship with bloc members has served as the foundation of Vietnam’s bilateral relations.
He stated the spirit of cohesive and proactive adaptation has helped ASEAN to overcome difficulties last year, particularly amid the negative impact of COVID-19 on the region’s socio-economic aspect, VOV said.
PM congratulates Khmer community on Chol Chnam Thmay
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has extended his wishes to the Khmer community, celebrating their traditional Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival with peace and full of their fine traditional cultural identities and customs.

More than 60,000 people vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 virus
As many as 60,139 Vietnamese people have been given an AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine shot since the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign was launched on March 8, according to the Ministry of Health on April 14.
Among the first vaccinated people are healthcare workers, and members of anti-coronavirus community groups and the steering committees on COVID-19 prevention and control in 19 cities and provinces.
The MoH has received more than 800,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine sponsored by COVAX Facility after purchasing 117,600 doses of the same vaccine in February 2021.

It is distributing the vaccine to localities to ensure priority groups can get the jab first.
The MoH also announced three imported coronavirus cases on April 14 morning. They are all Vietnamese citizens returning from Germany and the Czech Republic both of which are currently ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The three patients tested positive during their stay in the concentrated quarantine facilities, thus posing no risk to the community,
Earlier on April 13 the MoH announced seven imported cases, including a German expert, VOV said.
