Party chief congratulates leader of Communist Party of Cuba
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has sent a message of congratulations to Miguel Diáz Canel Bermúdez on his election as First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).
He expressed his belief that under the leadership of the PCC led by Miguel Diáz Canel Bermúdez, the fraternal Cuban people will overcome difficulties and challenges, successfully implementing policies set by the eighth PCC Congress, thus reaping greater achievements in the process of national construction and defence, for the goal of building socialism in a prosperous and sustainable manner.
The Vietnamese Party leader also sent a letter to Raul Castro, former First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, on the occasion of the success of the eighth National Congress of the party.
Trong said Raul Castro’s decision not to run for the election reflects his trust on new Cuban leaders, who will continue writing new pages of history of the Cuban Revolution.
Expressing admiration for Raul's glorious revolutionary career over the past seven decades, Trong hailed him for dedicating his efforts to the revolution in service of the people, making great contributions to the revolutionary cause and socialism building in Cuba.
Trong described Raul as a close and trustworthy friend and comrade of the Party, State and people of Vietnam over the past more than six decades, who has inherited, developed and deepened special friendship, fraternal solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between Vietnam and Cuba which were fostered by national hero José Martí, leader Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh.
Trong wished the Cuban leader good health, happiness and would make valuable contributions to the revolutionary cause of fraternal Cuban people as well as the Vietnam - Cuba ties, as reported by VOV.
NA leader lauds ethnic minority committee’s contributions to success in 14th tenure
National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue chaired a working session with NA Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs on April 20, during which he lauded the contribution of the committee to the overall success of the 14th NA tenure.
The top legislator noted that in the 14th tenure, the NA issued a number of breakthrough policies regarding ethnic minority and mountainous areas, one of which was a resolution approving a master plan on socio-economic development for ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-2030 period.

The NA also approved the National Target Programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-30 period, he said, highlighting the considerable contribution by the NA Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs to the adoption of the documents.
He asked the committee to design a project to renovate itself for stronger performance.
Besides, he stressed the need for the committee to review its working plan until the end of the NA’s 14th tenure as well as for 2021 and the next five years, NDO reported.
Vietnam stresses closer cooperation at 2021 Boao forum for Asia
Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed the need to ramp up cooperation to address global challenges, including COVID-19 and climate change, at the 2021 Boao forum for Asia taking place in China.
According to the Vietnamese head of State, countries need to take joint actions for inclusive, sustainable and safe development for all.
He suggested that countries promote cooperation in disease prevention and control, and ensure their accessibility to vaccines at reasonable costs. In addition, countries should achieve their macroeconomic stability, facilitate trade and investment, maintain supply chains, promote production and create employment.
The president highlighted major developments in the Vietnam-China relations in recent times, saying both countries are close neighbours that have worked closely together to halt the COVID-19 pandemic, maintain economic growth and become bright spots in the overall regional and global picture.
He voiced Vietnam’s desires to promote comprehensive, effective, equal, and mutually beneficial cooperation with China, so as to successfully contain the COVID-19 pandemic, maintain an environment of peace and stability and develop bilateral relations more positively and effectively.
As reported by VOV, the 2021 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) kicked off in Boao, a coastal resort in South China's Hainan Province on April 18 on the theme of “A World in Change: Join Hands to Strengthen Global Governance and Advance Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation.”
Vietnam, Singapore to resume post-COVID commercial flights
Vietnam and Singapore have agreed to accelerate negotiations on a priority travel mechanism towards resuming safe commercial flights between the two countries in order to boost their economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation.
They will also increase the exchange of information and experience as well as cooperation to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, creating favourable conditions for the two countries’ citizens to return to their homes.
The agreement was reached during phone talks on April 20 between newly-elected Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.
Lee congratulated Chinh on the latter’s recent election as Prime Minister of Vietnam, and expects to collaborate with the new Vietnamese Government leader to promote the strategic partnership in all areas between Singapore and Vietnam.
The two PM expressed their delight at the positive developments of the Vietnam-Singapore cooperation in recent times despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, they noted Singapore is the biggest foreign investor in Vietnam, while the Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) model is operating effectively, symbolizing the success in economic cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides consented to strengthen cooperation in the areas of their potential and strength, such as finance, information technology, agriculture and fisheries, education - training, and infrastructure, VOV said.
Viet Nam Reports 10 New COVID-19 Cases, 15 Recoveries
Viet Nam confirmed ten new imported cases of COVID-19, bringing the national patient tally to 2,801.
The latest patients include a 20-year-old Indian man who flew from India to the United Arab Emirates and then took a flight to Ha Noi on April 6.

He is being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ha Noi’s Dong Anh District.
All the others patients are Vietnamese repatriated from the U.S. (two), Japan (four), Romania (two), and India (one).
The same day, 15 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, taking the total recoveries to 2,490. These patients shall continue self-isolation at their places of residence for the next 14 days as currently regulated, according to VGP.
