Vietnamese PM to Attend ASEAN Leaders' Meeting in Jakarta
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the ASEAN Leaders' Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 23-24.
This is Pham’s first foreign trip since he became Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on April 5, 2021.
Consolidating and enhancing solidarity and mutual assistance among ASEAN member States is one of the priorities in Viet Nam’s foreign policy, which will contribute to heightening the bloc’s centrality and position in handling emerging challenges, thus creating a peaceful environment conducive to sustainable development in each member country as well as the whole region, VGP reported.
NA Chairman receives more congratulations from foreign leaders
Parliamentary leaders of foreign countries continued to cable letters of congratulations to National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue on his election as the top leader of the Vietnamese legislature.
NA Chairman Hue received congratulations from Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives Travor Mallard, Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Anu Vehvilainen, Turkey's Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop, and Kuroiwa Yuji, Governor of Kanagawa prefecture of Japan, as reported by NDO.

Singaporean Prime Minister affirms high priority for relations with Vietnam
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien-Loong on April 20 affirmed that Singapore gives high priority to relations with Vietnam during his talk on the phone with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh.
Calling Chinh to congratulate him over his election as Prime Minister of Vietnam, Singaporean PM Lee also appreciated Vietnam’s success in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and in socio-economic development as well as external relations.
In reply, PM Chinh said he hopes to work closely with the Singaporean PM to further promote the strategic partnership between the two countries across the fields.
The two government leaders rejoiced at the positive developments in bilateral cooperation despite the difficulties brought by COVID-19. They noted that Singapore was the biggest investor in Vietnam in 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.

They agreed to bolster joint work in fields of the countries’ potential and strength, such as finance, information technology, agro-fisheries, education-training, and infrastructure, while seeking to expand cooperation in areas related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution like clean energy, smart city, innovation, digital economy, as well as the sharing of experience in management, economic development, and human resources training.
The two sides consented to boost cooperation in responding to COVID-19 and facilitating the repatriation of each other’s citizens, and accelerate negotiations on travel preferential regulations between the two countries toward resuming safe commercial flights that suit the situation in each country and in the region so as to promote bilateral trade, investment and tourism ties.
The two PMs affirmed their resolve to make active contribution to building a strong, united and resilient ASEAN Community with a central role and common voice in regional and international peace and security issues, according to NDO.
PM Chinh invited the Singaporean PM to visit Vietnam at a suitable time. PM Lee Hsien Loong accepted the invitation and expressed his wish to welcome the Vietnamese PM to Singapore.
Da Nang Police urged to ensure absolute security for upcoming elections
Politburo member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam led a delegation from the Ministry of Public Security, visiting and working with the Municipal Police Department of Da Nang on April 20.
Director of the Da Nang police, Major General Vu Xuan Vien, briefed delegates on the security and order situation as well as the various activities and achievements obtained by the local police in recent times.

Speaking at the event, General To Lam applauded the efforts and achievements of the city’s police over recent times, especially when the pandemic and natural disasters negatively affected local police operations.
Minister To Lam also asked the provincial police to deploy maximum force and means to suppress crime and ensure security and order during the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly (NA) and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure, NDO said.
Five New COVID-19 Cases Take National Tally to 2,806
Five Vietnamese brought home from Russia and Japan were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the national caseload to 2,806.
Specifically, patients numbered 2802 and 2803 are natives of Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong.
They landed at the Cam Ranh Airport in the south central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on April 18.
Both of them are being treated at the locality’s Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

Meanwhile patients 2804-2806 are natives of Quang Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and Yen Bai.
They flew from Japan to the central city of Da Nang on April 7.
The trio are being treated at the city’s Hospital for Lung Diseases, VGP reported.
