Vietnam Promotes Cooperation with Ireland, Switzerland

At the political consultation between Vietnam and Ireland, Director General of the European Department Do Minh Hung and Director General of Asia-Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ireland Gerard Keown assessed the development of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Ireland in the fields of politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, education - training, and bilateral cooperation.

The Irish official affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner in the Asia-Pacific strategy of the Irish government. Ireland would further deepen the Vietnam-Irish relations in the coming time.

The two countries will promote delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones, and continue to maintain bilateral cooperation mechanisms between the two foreign ministries effectively. Ireland is ready to support Vietnam in potential fields such as security defense, sustainable development, and food security.

The two sides emphasized that trade and investment cooperation would continue to be one of the pillars of Vietnam-Ireland relations. Thereby, the two countries would create favorable conditions for businesses to invest in each country and increase the two-way trade turnover further in the coming time.

Especially, it is important that the two countries make good use of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which will create momentum for the development in the field of economics and trade.

The Irish side stated that it would complete the procedures for ratifying the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create favorable conditions for investment activities between the two countries and that it would positively acknowledge Vietnam's request to remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnam's seafood exports soon.

In the meeting, Vietnam expressed gratitude to the Irish Government for considering Vietnam as a priority partner in its development cooperation policy, highly appreciated the effectiveness of Ireland's development aid projects in Vietnam in recent years, and proposed that the Irish side would continue to cooperate with Vietnam in the development cooperation fields.

At the political consultation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), in a friendly and open atmosphere, the Director General of the European Department Do Minh Hung, and the Director General of the Asia-Pacific Department, FDFA Heinrich Schellenberg reviewed the cooperation situation and discussed directions and measures to promote the Vietnam-Switzerland relations in the coming time.

The Swiss side has evaluated Vietnam as an increasingly important partner in foreign relations and emphasized the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Switzerland recently, which have recorded positive developments in many fields such as politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, development cooperation, and education.

The two sides agreed to promote the core role of the two countries' foreign ministries and the delegation exchange at all levels, especially high-level ones, to enhance political trust and create momentum to strengthen bilateral relations in the future.

Trade and investment are important pillars of bilateral cooperation, therefore, Vietnam proposed Switzerland actively promote the negotiation process, moving towards the signing of the Vietnam-European Free Trade Association (EFTA), creating favorable conditions for trade and investment of the two countries. Vietnam also expressed gratitude to Switzerland for providing the ODA capital, which has supported to Vietnam over the past decades in many essential fields.

The Swiss side agreed with Vietnam's proposal to demonstrate political determination and flexibility in approach so that the two sides could quickly conclude negotiations on the Vietnam-EFTA Agreement.

Director General Schellenberg affirmed that Switzerland would continue to accompany and cooperate with Vietnam in development cooperation, climate change response, and sustainable development.

In addition, within the framework of the two consultations, Vietnam and its Irish and Swiss partners affirmed that they would continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums such as the United Nations or the cooperation framework with ASEAN as well as discuss international and regional issues of shared concern.
