The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has allowed operators to resume mass passenger transport services from May 8.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Transport has allowed operators to resume mass passenger transport services from May 8, Kinhtedothi.vn reported.

The ministry has also asked relevant units to keep abreast of the situation of passenger transportation in the locality and promptly handle arising situations.

Besides, mass passenger transport providers have been asked to keep applying measures to prevent the coronavirus in the vehicles in accordance with regulations.

On May 6, the ministry requested the transport sector to notify carriers on the cessation of social distancing measures on massive transport vehicles (buses, taxis, passenger cars, trains, airplanes, ships, among others) from May 7.

The ministry recommended that still people should strictly take measures to prevent Covid-19, such as properly wearing face masks in public places and on mass transport vehicles during the journey, making medical declarations, disinfecting hands, checking body temperature, limiting interactions, among others.

Earlier, from April 1, providers of ride-hailing services in Vietnam ceased operations to limit the risk of infection from mass movement of people, in accordance with the government's request to practice social distancing.

On March 31, the Hanoi Department of Transport requested the suspension of all buses, ride-hailing and inter-provincial passenger transport services from April 1 in the city.

Accordingly, all the contracted service vehicles of more than nine seats were required to suspend operations. Passenger transport on fixed routes to/from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is maintained, but operators have to reduce to two trips per day, provided that the distance is less than 100 km, and the number of passengers would not exceed 20 or less of 50% of the total seats.
