Vietnam - Russia Conference Boosts Academic Exchange

The Vietnam - Russia academic exchange takes the Russian linguistics program between the two countries to a deeper level.

On Feb. 18, the academic conference "Issues of intercultural exchange in the context of teaching Russian as a foreign language" was held in hybrid form in Hanoi.

The organizers are the Pushkin Institute together with the University of State Pedagogy in Moscow.

In the opening speech, Luong Ngoc Minh, Vice Rector of Hanoi University, said that the cooperation with Moscow National University of Pedagogy to organize the seminar was the beginning training cooperation between the two leading educational institutions of the two countries.

The conference not only contributes to promoting the development of research and teaching of Russian as a foreign language in Vietnam, but also serves as a forum for academic exchanges between scientists and Russian linguists in the two counties, he said.

This is a great opportunity to take the relationship between Russian language training institutions in Vietnam and partners of the Russian Federation to the next level.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Vietnam, said: “Currently, there are more than 300 million people speaking Russian in countries around the world, including Vietnam.

"For many generations of Vietnamese who have studied and worked in our country in different periods, Russian has become an indispensable part of their lives, helping them to acquire knowledge and skills needed to further career development.”

Bezdetko expressed his pleasure to see that the young Vietnamese generation is interested in learning Russian.

Every year, there are about 1,000 Russian scholarships for Vietnamese students. Still, the scope of Russian language teaching needs to expand beyond schools and universities.

Bezdetko hopes that the Russian language will gradually be more popular in Vietnam and reaffirmed that the Russian side was ready to support Russian-related activities in Vietnam.

More than 150 delegates and reporters from Vietnam, Russia and 10 countries around the world who are Russian linguists attended the seminar.

They are academics experts, scientists, lecturers, teachers, PhD students, masters, students, trainees, and educational managers in educational institutions in Vietnam and abroad.

The Organizing Committee has received nearly 90 research papers and presentations in Russian by researchers from 12 countries including Russia, Vietnam, USA, Germany, Syria, Spain, Croatia, China, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Important presentations were presented by Russian linguists from universities and research institutes of Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

The presentations focused on clarifying a number of issues on teaching methods of Russian as a foreign language, applying information technology in teaching and learning Russian during the pandemic.

After the plenary session, there will be parallel meetings of five subcommittees on February 18 and 19.

At the closing ceremony of the workshop, the presenters and participants of the Workshop will receive a Certificate from the organizing committee.

The workshop was organized into five discussion sessions on the following main topics:

1: Theoretical and methodological issues of acculturation in intercultural communication.

2: Cultural and anthropological aspects of interlingual communication.

3: Harmony between approaches and methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language in the global context.

4: Russian language in the context of digital globalization.

5: Russian language in the socio-cultural space of Vietnam.
