Vietnam Summer Camp 2023: Overseas Young Vietnamese Learn Traditional Games
During two days in Thanh Hoa , the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV), under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Thanh Hoa's Department of Foreign Affairs and Youth Union the Youth Union held a visit for overseas Vietnamese to the Special National Site in Lam Kinh (Tho Xuan), World Cultural Heritage - Ho Dynasty Citadel (Vinh Loc), Thanh Hoa SOS Children's Village, Thanh Hoa Museum, Sam Son Beach and had cultural exchanges and campfires with Thanh Hoa's Youth Union.
Impressed with heritage and historical relics
On the morning of July 23, the delegates of the Vietnam Summer Camp 2023 went to Special National Sites in Lam Kinh (Tho Xuan), offering incense in memory of King Le Thai To, the Kings of the Later Le Dynasty, and Lam Son heroes who are proud for their efforts to protect the country's peace, independence, and contribute to the nation's construction. They showed special interest in the "smiling" guava tree - one of 18 trees in the Lam Kinh site.
Later that day, they visited the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty, a World Cultural Heritage. Witnessing the solid and intact citadel gate built 600 years ago, they were amused to learn that the gate was constructed from large rocks that were finely hewn, square, and stacked tightly without glue or cement.

On the morning of July 24, the delegates visited Thanh Hoa Museum, where they showed enthusiasm for historical relics as they saw with their own eyes the unique and rare bronze items made and used by the ancient Vietnamese people, notably the Dong Son bronze drum collection .

Immersed in volunteering activities and fun folk games
Also on the morning of July 24, the delegation donated VND 20 million in cash VND 1.25 million in kind to children at Thanh Hoa SOS Children's Village. The gift was raised by the delegates themselves. In addition, on behalf of the Vietnamese community in Poland, young delegates from Poland donated USD 900 USD and EUR 5 to the children in the village.
At Thanh Hoa SOS Children Village, the young expats had both warm and touching moments from talking to disadvantaged children and excitement while watching the kids' art performances.
The delegation then played folk games such as using rice and corn mills, walking on stilts, walking on monkey bridge, blind man's bluff,... In the afternoon and evening of July 24, they visited Sam Son beach and joined a campfire and cultural exchange activity with members of Tsinghua Youth Union.

Held annual by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Vietnam Summer Camp brings young Viet expats to their homeland to learn about the political and social situations and cultural, historical, and natural values of Vietnam, interact with the young generation living in the country, thus contribute to the implementation of the Party and State guidelines and policies about overseas Vietnamese. The Vietnam Summer Camp 2023 started on July 19, with the participation of 120 delegates who are young Vietnamese living in 20 countries worldwide. The camp lasts for two weeks and brings the delegates to 10 provinces and cities in Vietnam. |
