According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in New York, Deputy Secretary General Amina J. Mohammad recognized the important role of the Group of Friends in promoting education topics on the UN agenda. She emphasized the need to focus on ensuring finance for education, ensuring rights for teachers, and taking advantage of digital transformation in education to bring the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 back on track.

Representatives of member countries of the Group of Friends discussed priorities in promoting education at upcoming UN forums.

According to Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, Vietnam, an active member of the UNESCO Executive Council, consistently supports UNESCO's role in promoting education globally. Giang highly appreciated the Group of Friends for promoting many important contents and commitments related to education in the draft document of the Summit of the Future, UN's most important event in 2024.

He proposed the Group continues to promote common positions in other frameworks. Giang also proposed organizing activities between the Group and other UN member states to enhance dialogue and share information about important activities, initiatives, experiences, and practices of the Group in each country regarding education.

The Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning was established in 2020 to commemorate the International Day of Education on January 24. The Group currently has nearly 50 members. It operates to promote education topics on the UN agenda, as well as sharing initiatives and good practices in ensuring the right to education of member states.
