Vietnam Takes Over The Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee In Islamabad

On July 21, at the Embassy of Vietnam in Pakistan, Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan Nguyen Tien Phong accepted the position of rotating the Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee in Islamabad from Thai Ambassador Chakkrid Krachaiwong.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan Nguyen Tien Phong accepted the position of rotating the Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee in Islamabad from Thai Ambassador Chakkrid Krachaiwong at the Embassy of Vietnam in Pakistan on July 21. Representatives of 7 ASEAN member countries including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam attended the handover ceremony.

Addressing the reception of the ACI Chairmanship in Pakistan, Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong congratulated the Thai Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office and appreciated the events organized by the Thai Embassy as well as the positive contributions of ACI's member countries.

Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong also expressed the honor to take over the position of Chairmanship of ACI in Pakistan and would do his best during his term to promote ACI's activities in the spirit of solidarity with ASEAN; to cooperate with Pakistan in all fields, especially in politics, economy, trade, investment, tourism, education and training.

The Ambassadors congratulated Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong on his new role and mission in Islamabad, especially in the context of Vietnam's increasing role and position in the region and in the international arena. Vietnam has also made its essential contributions to preserving and creating an environment of peace, security and prosperity in ASEAN as well as between ASEAN and its strategic partners and the world.

After the handover ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong chaired the first meeting of ACI in this term, proposed a number of initiatives and activities to promote cooperation in many fields between ASEAN and the host country as well as its strategic partners and dialogue partners.

Representatives of ASEAN countries appreciated the initiatives and proposed activities of the new ACI Chairman Nguyen Tien Phong. They agreed on implementing the activities proposed by Ambassador Nguyen Tien Phong including the celebration of the 55th founding anniversary of ASEAN (August 8) and the 28th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN (July 28). These events are considered to strengthen and deepen the awareness of ASEAN's central and leading role in the region and in the world.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional grouping that aims to promote economic and security cooperation among its ten members: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. ASEAN was established in August 1967 with the purpose of accelerating economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region, and promoting regional peace and stability.
