Professionalism leaves good impression

Kunthea Duong from the Cambodian Red Cross said this was the second time she participated in an international conference organized by the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies within this year. The first was on the occasion of the 20th Southeast Asia Regional Leadership Conference and the 2nd Southeast Asia Regional Youth Forum, which took place in her home country.

For first visit to Vietnam, she was especially impressed by the professionalism of the Vietnam Red Cross Society in organizing this 3-day event. Kunthea Duong plans to apply the lessons drawn from this event in her works in the Human Resources department.

"One of the things I want to experience the most while in Vietnam is visiting the Vietnam Red Cross Headquarter. It is because I want to know how the work is done, the process and the structure that they have in the headquarters," said Kunthea Duong.

Thoughtfulness in preparation's details

Nepali delegate Madhab Uprety (Asia Pacific Regional Lead, Red Cross and Red Crescent Society Climate Center) regularly received information provided by the Organizing Committee many months before the event. This shows the thoughtfulness of the host country's preparation.

"I like that the preparation started months ago. Right. So we were already briefed with things like how we need to prepare and what particular aspects of the conference we need to consider. That was really helpful. The reception at the airport as well, there were Vietnamese volunteers from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Society there to help us during this conference and even at the hotel," said Madhab Uprety.

Vietnam is known as a country with unique Eastern cultural characteristics, so before going back to Nepal, Madhab Uprety. plans to buy many souvenirs. He is looking forward to going shopping for world-famous Vietnamese products such as silk scarves, traditional folk paintings... as gifts for relatives and family members.

A city of amazing hospitality and rich history

This is the second time traveling to Vietnam for Dutch delegate Bas van Rossum (Global Youth President, Red Cross Red Crescent International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) During his first trip in 2022, he had explored many provinces and cities such as Hoi An, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City.

"I am really excited to go to the Old Quarter of Hanoi. When I was in Ho Chi Minh City, I could feel the bustling of the city, and a lot of high-rise buildings. While Hanoi I think it is more historical, with many more lower-rise [buildings]," said Bas van Rossum.

After receiving enthusiastic support from the Vietnamese volunteers, right from the moment he arrived at the airport and moved to the conference hall, he felt warmly welcomed. Even the schedule is quickly updated and detailed, which brings much comfort. As a first-timer in Hanoi, he wants to learn about the local culture as much as possible during his free time,

"I have the pleasure of traveling a lot with IFRC. It's a really community based organization, meaning all of our volunteers know very well the heart of the place.So instead of taking me to overly touristy places, they took me to their communities. I think that brings a really interesting, more local and traditional experience,” said the Dutchman.
