Vietnam, UK Bolster Cooperation

Vietnam considers the UK as one of the leading strategic partners in Europe and the world and is ready to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

On the afternoon of March 10, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son had a meeting with Gareth Ward - ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Vietnam and Chris Jeffery, chairman of the British Chamber Of Commerce Vietnam.

At the meeting, Minister Tran Van Son appreciated the contribution and efforts of Ambassador Gareth Ward in strengthening bilateral relations between Vietnam and the UK.

He thanked the British Government, one of the first European countries to support Vietnam with Covid-19 vaccine and medical equipment for the pandemic prevention and control.

The Minister also congratulated UK's achievements in Covid-19 response and appreciated the contribution in the global fight against Covid-19, including the COVAX mechanism.

According to the Minister, after November 2021, Vietnam has established a National Steering Committee to fulfill Vietnam's commitments at COP26, led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Minister also appreciated the support and cooperation of the agencies of the UK and Northern Ireland towards Vietnam.

The areas of cooperation are regulatory reform, business environment improvement, and national competitiveness enhancement under the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnam's Government Office.

On the basis of technical support, the Government Office advised the Government to issue Resolution 68/NQ-CP dated May 12, 2020 on the program to reduce and simplify business regulations for 2020-2025 .

The office also proposed to organize seminars on business regulation reform in 2021.

These are very timely and effective supports that the UK has given Vietnam, especially in the context of Vietnam strengthening institutional reform and the business investment environment to recover.

Ambassador Gareth Ward mentioned important areas of cooperation between the two countries, including climate change response, renewable energy development, and digital transformation.

In digital transformation, the British Embassy has worked with many partners in Vietnam. They appreciate the good relationship in regulatory reform and digital transformation with the Government Office.

Ambassador Gareth Ward also wished that the role of the British Chamber Of Commerce Vietnam would be enhanced, contributing to good cooperation between the two countries.

The Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership has developed strongly and comprehensively.
