Vietnam - US holds virtual talk on climate change

Vietnam has international commitments and has been working closely with other countries to solve climate change challenges. Those efforts also include promoting cooperation with the US.

Deputy PM, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held a virtual meeting with US President's Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry at the Government's headquarter on March 30.

At the meeting, both sides agreed that Vietnam - US' Comprehensive Partnership continued to flourish in all fields, bringing practical benefits to the countries' people and positively contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.

The two sides also consented to promote cooperation in order to further deepen the bilateral relations on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, political institutions, and mutual interests.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh welcomed the Biden administration's increased commitment and promotion of global efforts to respond to climate change, including the re-joining of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that as one of the countries most seriously affected by climate change, with a strong policy and high political determination, Vietnam had been and would support international commitments and working closely with other countries to address climate change challenges, including strengthening cooperation with the US.

US President's Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry affirmed that the US continued to attach importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam. He said the US would continue to strengthen cooperation and support developing countries, including Vietnam in responding to climate change.
