Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien shared the view that the relationship between Vietnam and the US is growing stronger than ever, during their talks in Hanoi on November 21.

O’Brien is on a visit to Vietnam from November 20-22 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties.

At the talks, both sides affirmed the importance Vietnam and the US attach to the bilateral comprehensive partnership based on the respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, and mutual benefits.

Minh noted his belief in the comprehensive development of the bilateral ties, ranging from politics-diplomacy to economy-trade, security-defence and people-to-people exchange.

The host hailed the activities that have been organised flexibly to mark the anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, including the maintenance of contact and the exchange of greetings between high-ranking leaders.

He thanked the US government and Department of State for their practical and timely support to Vietnam in coping with COVID-19 and settling flood consequences in the central region over the past time.

O’Brien, for his part, said the US backs a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam, which plays an increasingly important role in the region.

The US will maintain stable relations and further cooperation with Vietnam to advance the bilateral ties in a practical, intensive, effective and sustainable fashion, thus contributing to security, peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large, he pledged.
