Vietnam’s northern and central regions are expected to continue sweltering in heatwave on July 10, with temperature mounting to 39C, according to the National Hydrometeorological Forecast Centre.
The low pressure from the west had expanded toward southeastern areas and combined with foehn effect to cause high temperatures.
Ultraviolet (UV) index in Hanoi is forecast to hit level 9 while that in central Da Nang city to reach level 11, both defined as very strong, raising the risk of skin damage in direct sunlight.
The prolonged heatwave may cause health issues and increased risks of fires and other accidents at residential areas as demand for electricity spikes.
As the hot spell is highly exacerbated by low humidity, there are warnings of fire and explosion hazards, as well as a high risk of forest fire.
It is forecast that the hot weather in the North will last until the end of July.
Since the beginning of the year, the average temperature across Vietnam has been 1-2.5 degrees Celsius higher than normal, and the trend is forecast to last until October.
