The Standing Committee of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary on the afternoon of Feb. 26 held a meeting with the embassy's official to discuss supporting and helping Vietnamese people from Ukraine to seek refuge in Hungary.

According to information released by the Vietnamese Association in Hungary, the association will establish a working committee to assist Vietnamese while they take shelter in Hungary.

The association will set up a team to provide support for them in terms of transportation, accommodation, and other necessities.

Its executive board also called on people to respond and support the association in receiving, supporting, and helping in the case of Vietnamese people traveling from the Eastern European nation to Hungary.

At the same time, the association also informed that the Hungarian Government has opened its border, ready to receive and help refugees from Ukraine.

Around 7,000 Vietnamese are living in Ukraine, mainly in Kharkiv, Odesa and Kyiv.

Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed an official dispatch on the protection of Vietnamese citizens and legal entities in Ukraine.

The PM requested the Foreign Ministry build plans to ensure security and safety and evacuate citizens and members of representative missions when necessary, while providing support for them in terms of accommodation, food and other necessities.

The ministry should also have plans ready to bring those people back to Vietnam in case they want to.
